THE MODERN JAZZ QUARTET – PRESTIGE PRJP 160 – 10 INCH – VG+/M- - MONO

There are the first two sessions of the MJQ, recorded by Rudy Van Gelder on this 10 LP. It features Milt Jackson on vibes, John Lewis on piano, Percy Heath on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums. The first session, recorded on December 22, 1952 is on Side A. SIDE A: ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE; LA RONDE; VENDOME and ROSE OF THE RIO GRANDE. The second session, recorded on June 25, 1953 is featured on Side B. SIDE B: THE QUEEN’S FANCY; DELAUNAY’S DILEMMA; AUTUMN IN NEW YORK and BUT NOT FOR ME. There is the “EAR” stamp on both sides of the blank vinyl. The address on the label is “440 W. 50th ST, N.Y. C”. This is a 10 inch LP and a MONO recording.

I have rated the LP as VG+ and the record jacket as M- for the following reasons. The LP is clean, but has a few very fine marks on the vinyl, which do not interfere with play. There is really no surface noise, except on Side 2, Cut 3, where there is a very small amount. There are just enough to keep it from an EX rating. There is no sign of wear in or around the spindle hole on either side. The record jacket speaks for itself. It’s in excellent condition with no sign of wear. There is a pencil mark in the top right corner of the liner notes. The LP comes in its original glassine sleeve.
