THE MOST – WE’LL MAKE OUT ALL RIGHT / SEA OF MISERY (COLUMBIA 4-43712) (PROMO) (VG-)

From Massapequa, Long Island, New York, there is almost no available information about this group.  This single on Columbia Records was released in July of 1966.  Both sides were written and produced by Chris Weiss and Steve Schlaks who were both very busy songwriter/musician/producers in the 1960’s. Sea of Misery is an excellent rolling garage tune that dabbles in pop and folk at different points in the song and features some subtle horns that aren’t so subtle during one big burst. The flip, We’ll Make Out Alright, is a folk-garage-pop number that has a bizarre (but very cool) Louie, Louie style guitar break in the middle.  If it weren’t for the detailed location of this band in the available reference material, I would suspect that this could be a possible Columbia Records studio project.  Unlike most Columbia 45’s from this period, this one is quite rare, so the pressing quantity might have been limited.  Both songs feature distinct male/female harmonies and have quite complex arrangements. Sea of Misery was included on a U-Spaces comp in 2007 and surprisingly has never been comped since. Unfortunately, this copy isn’t in the greatest condition and is pretty beat up.  It grades visually as VG- but plays as VG on the Sea of Misery side and VG+ on the We’ll Make out Alright side. I figured that someone would still want it in this condition based on its scarcity and high quality songwriting, arrangement and musicianship. Both sides have label wear.   Check out the scans and audio samples.

Hi folks, this is Velvetfogg, founder of the U-SPACES music collective which ran from 1997 to 2020 on Yahoogroups and has now switched over to Facebook.  The primary focus of U-SPACES was to provide a network of Psych & Garage music aficionados to build and share compilations of non comped songs. Over the past 40 years I have amassed a large 45 & LP collection which I am now choosing to put up for auction to help fund my kid’s college educations.  Generally speaking, I am only putting things up for auction that are either in excellent condition or extremely rare.

My preference is to run these auctions on EBAY because of familiarity with the process, but there is the potential that I will switch or use other platforms in parallel in the future.  Check out my collection on DISCOGS under VELVETFOGG. I have only listed 45’s on that site that I plan to auction in 2021/22 and the list will grow substantially on a weekly basis as I continue to go through my collection. I hope to list 10 records per week for EBAY auctions on Sundays.
