Description
Offered is "Before Dawn-The Music of Yusef Lateef." This long out of print lost classic is on the Verve "trumpet player" ("Verve Records Inc.) deep groove label, MGV-8217 ( 8000 series). This ground breaking album was recorded in April of 1957 and released in 1958. This is the true first pressing of the one and only LP Lateef recorded on the Verve label.
Backing Lateef are: Curtis Fuller--trombone---Hugh Lawson- piano---Ernie Farrow-bass and Louis Hayes-drums.
Yusef Lateef was the very first musician to introduce Indian instruments to the Western Jazz scene the arghool (oriental flute) and rebab, a one-string guitar-like instrument.
This amazing album transports the listener into a free-form flow of sound that rides on currents of ethereal virtuosity that transcends mere "music". This record is unique. This is sonic nectar.
Record Plays: Good+ / VG-, with varying degrees of surface sound. Enjoyable listening nonetheless.

Cover: Good, with top seam and spine taped. There is a small sticker affixed to the front and a name written on the back.
