THE NATIONAL HIGH VIOLET 2LP TEST PRESSING
Original 2010 4AD white label 2LP test pressing of The National’s High Violet, catalogue number CAD3X03.
Both records have plain white labels and are housed in white die cut card sleeves. The set comes directly from Roger Trust’s Beggars / 4AD archive material and retains his original handwritten identification note.
The runouts correspond to the 2010 CAD3X03 production cut, with RJ inscriptions and machine stamped STERLING mastering marks across all four sides:
Side A: CAD 3X03 1 1 / RJ / STERLING / BA00367 01 A1
Side B: CAD 3X03 1 2 / RJ / STERLING / BA00367 01 B1
Side C: CAD 3X03 2 1 / RJ / STERLING / BA00367 02 C1
Side D: CAD 3X03 2 2 / RJ / STERLING / BA00367 02 D1
Both test pressing discs weigh approximately 140 grams each, distinguishing them from the subsequently issued heavyweight 180g commercial violet vinyl edition.
Condition:
Both records are in Near Mint condition, with exceptionally clean playing surfaces and virtually no evidence of use. There is only the faintest spindle evidence, with one tiny spindle trail visible on one label. They appear to have been played extremely little, if at all.
The white card sleeves show only light storage and handling wear.
Also included are four original The National High Violet promotional postcards from the same Beggars / 4AD archive material. These are included as additional period ephemera and provenance; no claim is made that they were originally packaged with the test pressing.
A particularly scarce and beautifully preserved white label test pressing of one of The National’s key albums, with direct Beggars / 4AD archive provenance.
