One for the Folk purists. I think the term " Hard Neck " may come to mind after telling you the record has cracking and clicking in playing, to then put a £20.00 asking price on what is a out of style genre, and a second hand record. Stick with me... American folk music has taken a strange journey. Most people fall into it by listening to say Bob Dylan or other noted revivalists. But even Bob Dylan caused controversy amongst the traditionalists, and there was a noted bust up with Pete Seeger on the mater. If I was to hold up a few artists to exemplify the point, one would have to be a Lady who stood knee deep in the mud of the Appalachian Mountains, called " Ola Bella Reed ". The rest were revivalists of the sixties and seventies generation, that went to the trouble of tracking down and documenting the songs and style. Artists and bands such as Country Gazette, The Dillards, and none more so than this group. The New Lost City Ramblers were a New York formed group, that gave no quarter when it came to authenticity, so much so that their recordings now now stand as the closest to source recordings you can get on long play format. I would highly recommend reading the Wikipedia page on the group, which has an extract from Bob Dylans biography. I have also highlighted a segment of the footnotes, that sums up, the bands approach and aim.
The record was pressed in 1964, and comes as an unclipped American import, on a label I have never come across before called, " Bisonic Stereo ", part of the Folkway Production.
