THE OFFSPRING

California band that hit paydirt in the 1990s with a slew of anthemic, oft-humorous punk-pop singles.

The Offspring's metal-inflected punk became a popular sensation in 1994, selling over four million albums on an independent record label. While the group's credentials and approach follow the indie rock tradition of the '80s, sonically the Offspring sound more like an edgy, hard-driving heavy metal band, with their precise, pulsing power chords and Dexter Holland's flat vocals. Featuring Holland, guitarist Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman, bassist Greg Kriesel, and drummer Ron Welty, the Offspring released their self-titled debut album in 1989. Four years later, their second album, Ignition, became an underground hit, setting the stage for the across-the-board success of 1994's Smash.
"THE OFFSPRING" This was The Offspring's first full-length studio album. Originally released on June 15, 1989 on Nemesis (#NEM-006),  only 5,000 copies of the vinyl were made at the time and it took the band two and a half years to sell them all.  One of the copies was destroyed by Wally George at his show the Wally George Show in 1989, thus leaving  only 4,999 copies available. Some copies also have the Cargo logo next to the Nemesis logo on the back cover.

PRINTED IN U.S.A.    ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING

[The first Offspring LP release. This album was later re-issued in 1995 on Nitro Records with different cover art.

The first pressing consisted of 3,000 copies on black vinyl, and features the original "Guitar Alien" front cover artwork by Marc Rude. The first pressing can be distinguished by only having one record company logo (Nemesis) on the jacket. Also, a double-sided lyric sheet is included with the album.

Subsequent pressings on Nemesis records had a Cargo Records logo on the sleeve in addition to the Nemesis logo. Only a handful of these included lyric sheets but these were only given to band members and close friends of the band.]
