Text from the final box set - "Four Decades of musical achievement - before Eugene Ormandy began his career as a conductor, he had already earned a reputation as a virtuosos violinsist. He was only 5 years old when he entered the Royal Academy of Music in his native Budapest, Hungary....appearances before the royal family of Austria-Hungary...after graduating from the Royal Academy he toured Europe as a virtuosos soloist and taught ...in Budapest.
In 1930 Ormandy directed his first concerts with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic....The Following years he substituted for Arturo Toscanini....
During the Ormandy era the Orchestra made hundreds of recordings, qualifying it as a the most recorded orchestra anywhere....has been awarded three Gold Records and 2 Grammies". (perhaps has been more since published?
