THE PANDORAS – It’s About Time. Voxx Records VXS 200.021. FACTORY SEALED NEW COLOR VINYL RECORD ALBUM. NOTE: There is a small corner ding upper right corner of the front cover; this is as it was received. Originally issued in 1984. This edition issued in 2016 and pressed on transparent purple / lavender vinyl. Comes with a rectangular hype sticker with quote by Mike Stax of Ugly Things magazine.
MEMBERS: Paula Pierce (lead vocals, guitar), Gwynne Kelly (organ, backing vocals), Casey Gomez (drums), and Bambi Conway (bass, backing vocals). Produced by Greg Shaw.

DESCRIPTION: The Pandoras, (led by Paula Pierce, primary songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist), began in 1983 as part of the 1960s revival garage rock scene led by The Unclaimed, which was led by Pierce's then boyfriend, Shelley Ganz. They were also associated with the Paisley Underground era in Hollywood's alternative rock scene that shared an aesthetic heavily influenced by 1960s garage rock and psychedelia. Most members came from the west side and beach cities area of Los Angeles County and Orange County. Pierce, a resident of Chino, California, had been a member of the Hollywood music scene and playing in bands since 1976. It’s About Time is their debut album and a classic of smart catchy pop delivered with raunchy grit and snarling lead guitar both provided by Pierce, not to mention Paula penned 10 of the 12 tracks on this album. If you like The Fuzztones, psych garage, and Farfisa organ, you will dig this album. More raw and authentic sounding than their second album, Stop Pretending (Rhino Records, 1985), this album has more organ and rocks harder. I have both Stop Pretending and It's About Time, and I’d give this one the edge, though they are both great spins (Stop Pretending just took a little longer to take hold). Check it out if you like the BOMP sound. SIDE BAR: In 1991, Pierce, going through yet another line-up change, slowly worked on new material with new member Lissa Beltri. A drummer joined Pierce and Beltri, who began auditioning bass players. On August 9, a bass player auditioned who both Pierce and Beltri liked. She was to be brought back in for a rehearsal on August 11. However, on August 10, after dinner and an exercise session, Pierce suffered a fatal aneurysm in the shower. Pierce had complained of painful headaches for two weeks before her death, but did not seek medical care.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers with inside packing.

NEW LP: This item is new and unplayed, but was received from a supplier without being shrink wrapped or cellophane wrapped; more common on imports but also many of the smaller independent US labels do not seal their LPs. These items are placed inside of a clear poly outer sleeve upon their receipt by me

MIX: This sometimes appears in my title line and refers to a group's/artist's music having a mix of styles such a rock track with jazz then followed by a straight rock track followed by a psych rock track, etc., as opposed to a blues album with the album's tracks having predominantly one style.
