On offer another RARITY by Pink Floyd, the LP titled “THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN” and this is an ORIGINAL 1967 UK RARE MONO 1st Pressing on the RARE Columbia label!

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn mono mix is much “punchier” and upfront. It just plain sounds better. However, there are many subtle changes in effect, moment to moment gradations that alter the flow of an entire track. For example, Syd Barrett’s whoops and shouts on “Take Up thy Stethoscope and Walk” are simply dripping with delay and the sound collage constantly morphs, unlike the stereo version which is “fixed”. The coda of “Flaming” is briefer than on the stereo version, as is “The Gnome”. There's a whole layer of organ missing on the stereo mix at the start of “Interstellar Overdrive” with a bongo fade-out and seriously different parts in “Pow R Toch H”.
THE 1st ISSUE IS CHARACTERISIED BY THE BLACK COLUMBIA LABEL AND BLUE “COLUMBIA” AND "MUSICAL NOTE". THIS IS THE ORIGINAL UK MONO ON THE RARE “MADE IN GT BRITAIN” COLUMBIA LABELS AND “GARROD & LOFTHOUSE” MONO COVER!
The record comes with the “Ernest J Day” flip over laminated cover in very good towards excellent condition less flimsy than subsequent pressings, very shiny laminate, and NO writing! just creases, small split on top and bottom edges and corner wear. The flip over back has the “File under popular: Pop Groups” in the top
The spine is fully readable with corner wear.
The Columbia BLUE and black labels are in excellent condition and have the Columbia label in blue with the embossed KT letters on side 2.
The vinyl has been played and is in very good condition. It is the genuine article and in MONO! This is how you'd have heard it on pirate radio back in the 60's. Not many people had stereo in those days. It definitely has a different sound and mix...not better, not worse...just different!
Mono was the main format of the day and so those mixes were done at separate sessions for each track. The whole stereo album was mixed in a single day with Norman Smith doing a ham-fisted attempt, so this really is the definitive mix of this greatest album with significant differences to the stereo mix. Mono was where all the work and time went and the stereo mix was pretty much cobbled together as an afterthought.
The black and white EMI protective promotional inner is in excellent condition.

No damage caused by sticker removal/residue. Disc- The record has been played and will have some superficial marks &/or hairline scratches and paper scuffs. Very good Cover - Moderate edge/spine or ring wear. Corners may be a little blunt. Opening edge may show feathering caused by removal of record. Visible creases or laminate lift. Localised sticker removal damage. Disc - The record has been played frequently and has noticeable surface marks, occasional light scratches and paper scuffs. Good Cover - Heavy ring or edge/spine wear. Corners noticeable bashed. Heavy creases. Considerable laminate/surface damage. Disc - The record looks very well played and the sound quality has probably deteriorated noticeably. A lot of surface marks/scratches. Usually used as collection filler
I am not a dealer but an amateur collector selling duplicated items or records that I no longer want to keep (mostly due to space). I do not clean records (other than a dust with anti-static) and unless indicated in the listing the records have been only visually inspected.
