RIO AMIGO Lp by THE POP'S. Original Brazilian 1st pressing on EQUIPE label (EQC - 882), from 1971. Desirable item by a cult group who first secured a record deal at the height of the Brazilian yeye wave / garage pop craze in the mid '60s. More importantly, they played a role in the evolution of the samba rock - Tropicalia sound just a few years later. This is the Lp that features their psych funk masterpiece MINA MALU (aka Malu The Girl). Originally released on a super-elusive, promotional single in 1968 then on here only. Great for DJs and a killer example of Brazilian psychedelia with haunting anthemic vocals / hypnotic piano / strung-out fuzz distortions / wah wah / spiralling portishead style bassline and heavy beats. The break midway is to die for too :) We have also recorded the beautiful SE VOCE VOLTAR with melancholic strings and hip hop tempo drum patterns / the groovy O APOCALIPSE with acid tinged guitar reverb - tape manipulation intro and the equally garage pop influenced SEM DINHEIRO (with fuzz guitar and jangly beat sound). This is the same group who recorded "Som Imaginario de Jimmi Hendrix" (with strikingly similar break as Mina Malu but with congas on top) as comped by Joel Stone for his influential Brazilian Guitar Fuzz Bananas selection. Striking artwork sleeve with Copacabana beach promenade scene. Seldom comes up for sale on mainland Europe. Rare Lp!!!

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG bboy b boy b-boy drums drum breaks pops

Vinyl is in shiny, VG++ condition overall, regardless of some hairlines / faint scuffs. Light surface noises. Mini section of faint pressing marks to "Mais Capim" track. Some soft pops / soft ticks in places (as you can hear in our soundclip) but mostly to intro of "O Apocalipse" theme. The laminated card sleeve is in VG+ condition overall, regardless of the first layer tear to the "R" of Rio on the back sleeve and another to the middle area of the open side (see photo). Ring wear / ring dirt marks / natural age discolouration / corner and edge wear. Ding to top spine side corner. Faint scuffing to front laminate (but to be expected). Gold Equipe label sticker to front sleeve. Rare Lp!!! psych exotica freakbeat hendrix
