Description
THE RIPTIDES-SUNSET STRIP 1978 ABLE LABEL RECORDS 7" EP AB004 IN A SOLID VG++ CONDITION. SUPER RARE!!
Released in Australia in 1978, this is the rare 7", 45rpm, 3-song EP (small LP spindle hole) by The Riptides "Sunset Strip" ("2:76"!) b/w "Magic Castle" (1:58) and "Rules of Love" (2:38)----The Able Label AB 004 (see original scans)! At the time of release, The Riptides were Allan Rielly, Dennis Cantwell, Mark Callaghan, and Scott Matheson.
The Wikipedia entry on the band states that in September, 1978, the band (then known as The Numbers) released "Sunset Strip" in a limited number (500) on the Go-Betweens' Able Label. Well, that would be this record, except the band credit is The Riptides, the name they changed from The Numbers around that time. The bio goes on to state that, as The Riptides, they re-mixed the "Sunset Strip" EP in July, 1979, in a limited pressing of 2,000. That could be this EP, too, but the year of issue on this record says "1978", with no mention of a re-mixing. So, just going by that entry, I don't know if this is the 1978 500-pressing, or the 1979 re-mixed 2,000-pressing! This just in from a Ebayer who looked at this auction...if any information like this below should come my way on this EP, I will post it so that the purchaser of this will know what they are buying, thank you. Its the later pressing of 2000 copies. The Numbers had a differant sleeve and a white Able label.
The record is in a solid VG++ condition, having been gently played maybe twice. I've been the sole owner since release. The original picture sleeve is included, and is in very good+ condition, with the only flaws being ring wear on both sides, residue from a cost sticker & a surface tear from where this was once taped shut, you can see it right under the building on the right hand side in the picture. $3.00 freight. US sales only!!
Thanks for stopping by my auction!!
