"THE ROLLING STONES" - 1ST ALBUM - MONO VINYL LP - DECCA - LK 4605 - 1964
Description
A 33 1/3 RPM vinyl mono LP, "The Rolling Stones" by the same.
This is the very first studio LP from the band. Recorded over 5 days in January/February 1964 at Regent Sound Studios, London and released in April of that year.
The album features mainly r&b covers with a couple of group compositions and one by Jagger/Richards
The band were:- Mick Jagger, vocals, harmonica(1:6, 2:1); Keith Richard*, electric & acoustic guitars, backing vocals; Brian Jones, electric guitar, harmonica (1:2, 1:3, 1:5), percussion (2:4, 2:5), backing vocals; Bill Wyman, bass, backing vocals; Charlie Watts, drums
Ian Stewart plays piano on (2:3, 2:4) and organ on (1:5, 2:5)
(* Keith Richards originally went without the 's' as his stage name)
Produced by Andrew Loog Oldham and Eric Easton
This is an early pressing of the album and has the following features, to distinguish it:-
The label rim reads ''Made in England. The Decca Record Co. Ltd.'' across the top, the NCB (no full stops) and B.I.E.M. captions are on the right hand side on side A. On side B the BIEM caption is omitted and N.C.B. caption appears with full stops. Tax code K/T on the label and in the 'dead wax' on both sides
The back cover lists ''I Need You Baby'' correctly as track A4, Ian Stewart is credited as playing on 'Can't I Get A Witness. the cover has ''flipbacks'': top and bottom are folded over the back cover. Tell Me (You're Coming Back) is the full, 4.06 minutes version
Discogs describes these as label 'V' and cover 'B1'
The front cover of the sleeve has only a colour photo of the 5 Stones (by Nicholas Wright) and the 'Decca' logo in the top, right-hand corner. No artist or album name, a concept dream up by The Stones' manager, Andrew Loog Oldham.
The back cover has 'The Rolling Stones' in large type, 5 small. individual, b&w photos (again by Nicholas Wright) of the band members, full track listing and credits, plus sleeve notes by Andrew Loog Oldham.
Original, poly-lined ,inner sleeve with 'mono' printed 4 times on both sides, record and turntable care instructions.

Condition
On visual inspection I would say this is VG+.
Some superficial scratches but there are only a few pops and some surface noise in the quieter passages.
Both labels are faintly marked with the initials 'RB' (so faint that I didn't notice them until looking at the photos in close-up!)
Plays well.
Sleeve VG+. There are some tiny creases, causing the laminate to lift along them (see photos). Some faint ring wear.
Some marks and creases on inner sleeve (see photos). Otherwise intact and very good.
