I recently acquired a stunning Rolling Stones collection and I will listing them over the next 2/3 months.  The vinyls are in superb condition as are the covers.

The Rolling Stones : Beggars Banquet 1K / 3K Blue Boxed Stereo Pressing

This stereo pressing plays with superb audio on both sides with no interference, the clarity of sound is stunning.  As you would expect there is a little inner groove distortion on the final track on each side but much less than what you usually find on the earlier pressings.  There are no ticks, clicks, pops or static anywhere!  The vinyl is visually stunning and has clearly hardly ever been played judging by the audio and that there is only one very small spindle trace on the S2 label.  It has been so well preserved.

The iconic Robert Stace laminated cover is in lovely condition with barely any wear and the wide spine for once is very clean.  The original inner sleeve is also in excellent order.

It may not be one of the earliest pressings but there is no denying the quality of the audio here.  In fact I could not find this label variation on either Discogs or the stonesondecca site.  However, the inner sleeve is date coded 6-73 so I suspect it was pressed around that time.

Visual description

The vinyl is in beautiful condition and looks hardly played.  It still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches and under a bright light I can only see a handful of ultra faint hairlines.  The blue boxed Decca labels are practically 'as new' with just one tiny spindle trace on the S2 label.

Play grading

The percussive intro on 'Sympathy For The Devil' could not play any better and Jagger's opening vocal is just as impressive.  From then on it plays with superb audio, the clarity and depth is sensational!  That familiar raw Stones power is very much in evidence and I cannot fault this version.  Richards' solos often play with some distortion but that is not the case here and through to the end including the long fade out there is no background at all.  A high end Mint version.

The acoustic intro on 'No Expectations' plays perfectly with not even a dust tick and then every vocal and instrumental section plays beautifully with zero intrusion.  I cannot emphasise enough just how well it plays but 'as new' sums it up pretty well.  Another Mint track.

'Dear Doctor' is of the same high end standard.  So far this pressing is playing rather well!  No intrusion, no distortion just pure Mint audio from start to finish.  The depth and warmth of the audio is so impressive.

The intro on 'Parachute Woman' is flawless and the opening vocal has no interference either.  It progresses in the same way and the distorted / thin sound you find on the mono pressings is hardly in evidence on this stereo version which is good.  The clarity of sound is superb and again there is no intrusion on the audio.  Another 'as new' fade out also.  Let's say Mint-

'Jig-Saw Puzzle' plays with genuine quality throughout and again this version is so much 'cleaner' than its mono counterpart.  Not quite perfect but still a fine version with only minimal inner groove distortion.  Perhaps I should not downgrade as a result because this is how it was produced / pressed but Near Mint is still a fair assessment of the audio.

The classic 'Street Fighting Man' plays with imperious quality from start to finish with no interference whatsoever.  The Stones at their very best - superb raw power and great depth and clarity on the audio.  Mint all the way.

The acoustic intro and opening vocal on 'Prodigal Son' have no background and it proceeds in the same manner with a sonic quality that can only be described 'as new'.  A sublime Mint version.  Each note is so clean and precise.

The classic intro on 'Stray Cat Blues' has not one dust tick even and the opening vocal does not disappoint either.  The first high octane chorus is phenomenal and thereafter it plays with such powerful dynamic audio.  There is barely any of that 'thin' sound here and from start to finish the playback is superb - the end instrumental is a case in point.  It drives with such power and depth and the long fade out has no intrusion either.  Mint-

The acoustic 'Factory Girl' plays with exceptional audio with no sign of any interference.  The clarity of sound is outstanding and there is nothing to detract from the audio.  Mint

'Salt Of The Earth' ends this classic album in fine style with very clear audio and no interference.  Yes a little inner groove distortion on the top end but like I say you expect it with this vinyl.  You can still play it loud and a change of the bass / treble levels certainly helps!  A Near Mint conclusion I would say.

In summary this stereo pressing plays to a superb standard with no actual interference - no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  There is just a little inner groove distortion on the final track of each side but as stated much less than the mono pressings and the first press stereos.  Great power and depth overall and the clarity really cannot be faulted.  In conjunction with a superb cover this will add to any collection.

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

This laminated Robert Stace cover is in lovely condition and the only wear is on the opening edge although minimal.  It has a little crimping at the top and a couple of other very minor crimps.  Aside from that it is so clean and both the front and back cover are visually stunning - just that minor creasing top left on the back.  For once the spine is in excellent shape and is only lightly compressed with a crease line running down the centre.  The corners have barely ant wear and the inside of the gatefold is immaculate.  A superb example of this iconic cover.

The original poly-lined inner sleeve is excellent with no side splits or tears and only minimal age related fading on a couple of edges and minimal creasing.

Play tested on my Rega P2 Turntable / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
