Over the coming months I will be listing a remarkable record collection for auction on ebay. This collection belonged to my friend Brian, one of the most discerning record collectors I have ever known. Brian started buying records in 1966 when he was a teenager. His infatuation for vinyl developed into a career and he eventually ended up working for RCA records and CBS/Sony records as a disc mastering engineer from 1977 to 1989. Brian’s not with us anymore, and I’m making good on my promise to him to sell his records in lovingly-prepared auctions which reflect the love he had for his vast LP collection. The proceeds are going to his family.

Brian’s collection is the kind that rarely comes up for sale. He had great taste in music and collected vinyl seriously for 40 years, taking superb care of his collection. To see all of Brian’s records that I currently have listed, click here.

I grade records conservatively, to ensure your satisfaction as the buyer. All LP’s will be shipped promptly in reinforced record-mailing boxes. Condition of sleeve:VG with considerable general wear and a seam split across more than half of the top of the sleeve.

Condition of records:VG with plenty of light marks across the board. It still sounds surprisingly good but you will hear a little crackle here and there.

Further Notes: After a series of albums that were decent but not great (including Goats Head Soup in 1973, It's Only Rock 'N Roll in 1974, and Black and Blue in 1976), the Stones truly excelled on 1978's Some Girls -- a focused, confident, gutsy gem that was rightly hailed as their best album since 1972's classic Exile on Main St. One of the best-sounding live LP's that resulted from that tour was Garden State '78, which was recorded at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, NJ, on June 14, 1978, and documents the Stones' third stop on the tour. Recorded from the venue's mixing desk, this two-LP set boasts superb sound quality -- and the word "superb" also describes the Stones' performances. Eight of the set's 19 songs are from Some Girls; the only songs on that album that they don't perform are the title song and "Before They Make Me Run." The Stones must have loved the fact that "Miss You," "When the Whip Comes Down," "Shattered," and other Some Girls gems went over as well as classics like "Street Fighting Man," "Brown Sugar," "Honky Tonk Woman," and "Tumbling Dice." When Garden State '78 was released in the late '70s, collectors were impressed by both the sound quality and the performances -- not surprisingly, copies went quickly.
