Here, you get what you pay for – SAFE PACKING in BOXES using 7mm DOUBLE-WALL STIFFENERS including full side protection and bubble wrap, the records removed from the covers of course. All this very safe packing means I lose money on every box I post, but safe delivery is, and will always be paramount. You WILL see the difference when my packet arrives. Also, I will pay for insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Also I aim to post the very same day after payment is received if possible. Label/Format: Decca, original unboxed format with the deep ring ridge. First pressing with with the ear logo at 2 o’clock and top rim states ‘Made in England’. Other details can be seen on my pictures.

Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with only quite light and equally fine spindle marks and no wear around the hole area. This gem appears very little used, and then with due care.

Warps or Lateral Movement: Assume all records I offer have no significant warping or lateral movement to cause sound or tracking issues. All should play fine even on budget turntables.

Rarity: Like Beatles albums, Rolling Stones record sold very well. Condition is the paramount factor and finding the early RnB albums little used and offering superb clean sound is very difficult. Also the cover, that more often seen ruined by heavy creasing, huge laminate lifts, dulling, grubbiness and tears. This very early example on the other side of the vinyl spectrum.

Brief Info: The second Rolling Stones album with most of the songs RnB cover versions. Three originals are included, and again it proved popular in the UK topped the charts for 10 weeks. This is a really lovely, very early pressing, the inner sleeve date-coded December 1964. It appears very little used and offers the finest of sound quality. The cover has the rarer early flipbacks and the ‘Blind Man’ text on the back. I have shown this in close-up. Clearly this was deemed offensive and pressure quickly grew for its removal, ans was on subsequent printings. To save money, some were pasted-over with a new panel omitting the blind man reference prior to the new cover being made. Most fans and collectors want the first issue cover and this one if highly impressive, especially given the age, popularity and thinness of the card. This is one of the very best examples of this vintage album I have seen or heard for a number of years.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(+): and being honest given all the facts, this is worthy of the second (+). Few seen these days will better this significantly. A single format, the front laminated with Clarifoil, this covers all the folds and ends on two rear external flipbacks and the flat spine edge.Far, far fewer of these covers included the flipbacks, most are smooth. The main back panel is matt. Printed and made in England by James Upton Ltd, includes the original vintage 1964 manufactured inner sleeve.

Lamination & Front: These very early Decca covers were made with very thin, delicate card, which usually has a detrimental affect on the laminate. The first thing I noted when first seeing this, was the lack of lifting, that being quite a rare sight on this cover that usually has sizeable spine edge blisters, cracking and even peeling. Well this one has avoided it, and the difference that makes for attractiveness is immeasurable. Also this has minimal creasing – any edge hairlines are few, very fine and light. Also any of the tiny few half moons gentle and very fine indeed. Viewed normally, full-on, little even shows. Overall, this 55-year-old cover front retains very fine shine, freshness and clarity. Yes, a little rim dulling top and bottom, but with a thick heavy record inside all these years, I think it’s earned the right. The dark band picture is fantastic and any edge ageing or toning tiny and light on the white side box.

Cover Back: The matt unprotected rear panel has little to fault, still clean, fresh and attractive. No rubbing, any of the tiny few creases gentle and very light indeed, no writing, grubbiness or ring wear. Rare to see that infamous Blind Man text this pristine. Both flipbacks are solid and neat with minimal toning to their laminate ends. Also these have only light fine creasing and a tiny tip crease on the top right tip. Like the front, this back will prove very difficult to find better.

Top Edge: Incredibly thin, but still reasonably straight, avoiding the heavy bowing some acquire. A few mostly very small laminate chips, but most is still intact.

Bottom Edge: Better still with all laminate intact, just the odd tiny micro hairline crease.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Mostly sharp with any thickening little and light. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with some patchy compression, the ends are nipped in manufacture. The text is unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate.

Corners: Any tip rubs or creasing tiny and light, very fine and mostly nearer excellent shape retained.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this very fragile mid-1960’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This beautiful item should please many, if not most collectors, especially taking into account how delicate these are, and age has to play a part.

The Inner Sleeve: Text side – EXCELLENT. Plain side – Very good, as it has a tape residue mark on the right side for 60% of the depth. Clearly the seam came unstuck years ago and held down with a piece of clear tape. Naturally darkened with age, it has two neat crisp window circles and the polylining fresh and clear. There is minimal creasing at all and all edge folds are unsplit and intact. Importantly, this is the original and includes 12/4 codes (December 1964). British patented with ‘Foreign patents pending’ text.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(+)/ EXCELLENT: arguably better given all the facts. Most will know the state these vintage mono RnB albums are found in these days. Heavily scratched, dulled surfaces that have been played a multitude of times on the most basic of record players – few are even worth of a second look. Remember, the recommended tracking weight for mono records was a cringe-worthy 10 grams. So any jolt or arm drop meant another wrecked copy. A very impressive visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and very solidly pressed on top-quality, robust Decca pure vinyl. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface marks few, mostly very light and purely superficial. No penetrating stylus scratches, hence no pops, clicks or distortion was heard, this gave a fantastic clean play-grade. Visually a super record that should please many, and maybe, even most collectors?

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This superb RnB classic album plays even above it’s high visual grading with barely anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is a very clean pressing with no tracking issues* or inherent pressing noises. Few available copies will outperform this very early pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp when played on a standard stereo system. I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been generally well stored and carefully handled. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this lovely record. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new Nessie Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
