Visual grading
This vinyl still retains a healthy glossy sheen and has not been overplayed as there is not that much spindle wear at all.  There are some hairlines although not that many and a few minor 'specks' but there are no scratches and the audio plays to a very high quality.  This first had a pressing run in 1970 so this vinyl is definitely in excellent condition for its age.
Play grading
'Everybody Needs Somebody To Love' plays with superb clarity from start to finish and has only a minimal amount of very light static on the intro.  On a vinyl that has not been overplayed, such as this one, the audio plays with great definition i.e. there is no 'muddiness' to the sound, no lessening in quality and the bass is so strong here.  This really is a stunning dynamic version of this track - no clicks or pops and no interference on the fade out at all.  'Down Home Girl' plays very clearly apart from a small number of very light static sounds but they are so much in the background as to be negligible.  I am very close to the speakers and is perhaps the only reason why I heard them!  There is just a couple of crackle sounds towards the end.  'You Can't Catch Me' is absolutely stunning from the very first groove and easily grades as Near Mint the quality is 'high end' indeed.  You think the fade out is playing perfectly but there are then two crackle sounds again right at the end.  Overall though this is an awesome version and the production values are superb, a real foot stomper!  The quiet intro on 'Time Is On My Side' is nigh on perfect and plays with wonderful clarity.  It continues to play with superb depth and only 3/4 mega light static sounds.  There are certainly no clicks or pops, a fantastic version.  'What A Shame' plays with a deep rich sound throughout.  There is no distortion on the top end and there is no 'background' at all.  'Grown Up Wrong' ends the side with 'high end' audio.  The depth of the audio and strong bass provide a superb listen.  There is no distortion which is a rarity for this track and that is a further indication that the vinyl has not been overplayed.  There is no groove wear and the clarity from start to finish is very impressive with hardly any interference.
'Down The Road Apiece' on S2 has a little static on the intro and also three clicks, the first on the album!  It then plays incredibly well with no other interference.  In fact the playback was absolutely superb!  It doesn't get any better than this!  The audio is so powerful and, apart from the intro, this is Mint- audio.  The quiet intro on 'Under The Boardwalk' is 'as new' and it then plays nigh on perfectly with only a couple of very gentle light 'ticks'.  A fantastic version without question.  'I Can't Be Satisfied' again impresses with super clear audio from the start and there is only one click during the entire playback.  Again I must stress just how superbly this plays, the depth and sonic quality cannot be beaten and aside from that one click the audio plays as perfect as could be.  Wow!  'Pain In My Heart' plays very clearly but with just a minimal amount of static.  In saying that it is very much in the background and totally non-intrusive, there are no clicks and the fade out plays with stunning precision.  'Off The Hook' plays with wonderful depth and no 'background'.  I keep on about the bass line on this album but it is just so strong and adds so much to the audio!  The clarity is superb on this track and again there is no decrease in sound quality which is impressive when you consider this vinyl is nearly 50 years old!  'Suzie-Q' ends the album with excellent sound and only a little distortion on top end.  No clicks, pops or crackle!
In summary for such an early boxed pressing on the red Decca label the audio could not be much better.  Yes there are four clicks on S2 but the audio overall plays with great clarity and precision and together with a very clean laminated cover this will not disappoint the avid collector.
The Cover
The laminated 'Clarifoil' cover by 'MacNeill' is in excellent condition with only minor wear.  The top edge has only a couple of very small 'rubs' and the bottom edge is untouched and in superb shape.  The thin pinched spine has just four minor crease marks and remains 100% legible.  There is only minor corner wear with just a little more on the right hand ones and the opening edge has barely any handling wear.  There are only three laminate creases on the front cover and a small split/mark in the top right corner plus 3/4 small creases next to the spine which you always see.  The back cover has the infamous 'blind man' text and is very clean overall with only faint marking around the edges and a couple of other small marks.  No writing!  It may sound like I have listed many negatives but it is only fair to provide a comprehensive description.  This cover isn't perfect (not many are!) but it is still far cleaner than many you see today.
Inner sleeve
The original poly-lined 'Mono' sleeve has no splits or tears just a little marking and minimal creasing.
The labels
The red unboxed labels are in superb condition and as per the first press on this 'print run' they have MONO in the centre of the label and the speed is written in small font and the song titles are on one line each.   They are extremely clean with no marking or writing and have lost none of their original deep red colour.
