Here is an edited review of this album :

"The Sallyangie, the British folk duo of Sally Oldfield and her brother Michael, were signed upon the recommendation of guitarist John Renbourn of the Pentangle. Sally was 21 years old, and Michael a mere 16, at the time of their late-'60s album Children of the Sun. Not surprisingly, the result was crystalline, gentle contemporary British folk with similarities to Pentangle, but considerably more low-key. The Oldfields collaborated on the writing of all of the material on their sole outing. Mike Oldfield went on to... achieve stardom as a progressive rock guitarist and composer with Tubular Bells, while Sally recorded less successful but equally ambitious art-rock albums as a solo act." ~ AMG

The Bear Sez : Here is an extremely rare white label promo copy of CHILDREN OF THE SUN, the debut effort by the obscure but talented British folk duo Mike & Sally Oldfield aka THE SALLYANGIE. This title was first released by Warner Bros.- Seven Arts in 1968. The extremely sharp labels on this copy would suggest that the record was seldom played. This promo disc was not mishandled & looks like new. Thus the record receives a grade of Near Mint (with a couple very light surface marks that are barely visible.) The gatefold cover shows minor wear but is still in Excellent shape with slight wear rings and a small bit of edge & corner wear. The spine is intact and legible. There are a pair of very small (1 inch) splits at the center of the top & bottom seams of the back cover. The black and white record labels are extremely sharp with no spindle marks, writing etc. As always, the record comes with its' original vintage inner sleeve. This one says "W7: Commemorating Ten Years Of The Best Entertainment On Record". Any vinyl copy of by THE SALLYANGIE is a scarce item. This copy is a white label promo with the original gatefold cover and it features the debut recordings of Progressive Rock legend/multi-instrumentalist Mike Oldfield and his older sister, Folk/Progressive singer-songwriter Sally Oldfield. The cover has a few slight flaws but it remains in excellent condition. The record looks fabulous and sports white promo labels. This record would be perfect for the Oldfield collector. Go out and catch some Sun !!
