THE SAVAGES Old Turkey Buzzard EP (Polydor 2221 030) RAREST India 1st Pressing EX
VERY RARE original Indian first pressing of The Savages` four-track EP, featuring "Old Turkey Buzzard (Theme From MacKenna`s Gold)" and "Montego Bay" b/w "Ode To The Messiah" and "The Girl With Kaleidoscope Eyes", on Polydor Records (1969). Comes complete with the fantastically rare picture sleeve.
This selection by The Savages ambles ably from Bo Diddley-beat inspired western soundtrack ("Theme From MacKenna`s Gold") to current chart-topping pop, ("Montego Bay"). Weirdness weighs heavily on the self-penned B-Side "Ode To The Messiah" with its blashemous ramblings, only to end on the actual high note, a pretty garage-psych ode to spiritual selflessness, "The Girl With Kaleidoscope Eyes".
GRADING:
EX(+) SLEEVE. Super-rare and in fine condition for its age. Please see photos for details.
- Small seam split (1" long) at top center.
- Minor discolouring of sleeve due to age, with slight record imprint.
- Fully intact opening edge, no tears.
VG+ to EX+ RECORD in very fine all-round condition.
- Peerless audio reproduction throughout.
- Some crackle in run-in grooves, as well as in the run-off.
- Side One: Visually EX+ with only lightest hairlining.
- Side Two: Visually VG+ with two (non-sounding!) scratches.
- Bright red Polydor Records labelling with a single spindle line on each side.
