Description

Up for auction is a highly sought-after 1957 original first pressing of The Shells' doo-wop classic, "Baby Oh Baby" b/w "Angel Eyes" on Johnson Records (#104).

Why this is the "True" First Pressing:

This copy features the rare B-side title "Angel Eyes." Shortly after the initial 1957 release, the title was changed to "What's In An Angel's Eyes" to avoid confusion with a popular jazz standard. Most copies found today are the 1960 reissue with the longer title; this is the authentic, uncorrected 1957 original.

Condition Details:

• Vinyl: VG+. This is the desirable thick-press 1957 vinyl. It retains a high glossy luster with only light surface scuffs/paper marks that do not affect play.

• Labels: EX. The Johnson orange and black labels are exceptionally clean with no ring wear and perfectly centered. Note: Both labels feature a vintage dark blue rubber stamp (9591), likely a period-correct distributor or radio station inventory mark, adding to the record's provenance.

• Dead Wax / Matrix: Features the original 1957 matrix numbers: J-104-45 and J-105-45.

This is a museum-quality example of East Coast doo-wop history. Includes an original heavy plain sleeve. Shipped securely in a professional record mailer.
