THE SMITHS - THE QUEEN IS DEAD
Everything about this 1986 UK 1st press copy is near mint : the vinyl, the gatefold outer sleeve, the original inner sleeve, and of course the sound quality. Stunning!
Year/Label : 1986 UK ROUGH TRADE Label number : ROUGH 96 Matrix numbers : ROUGH 96 A1, ROUGH 96 B1 both etched, with "MPO" and "FEAR OF MANCHESTER", and "MPO" and "THEM WAS ROTTEN DAYS" also etched onto side 1 and side 2 run-off's respectively Stampers : 2 AG / 3 P0Near mint (NM) condition vinyl - flat and retaining a beautiful jet black lacquered sheen and hard to fault. With very close inspection under a bright light it is just (and only just) possible to detect one or two small and wispiest of wispy paper scuff hairlines...nothing really. Remarkable condition for a record that is now 40 years of age. The labels are in similarly near mint (NM) condition - I can just about detect a single and small extremely faint spindle trail on the side 1 label but to all intents and purposes each label is pristine. Clearly this is a record that has been barely played and meticulously looked after from new. Again, near mint (NM) condition 1st press glossy (inside as well as outside) gatefold outer sleeve - firm edges devoid of any scuffing, a rigid and unmarked spine with all spine text perfectly intact, perfectly defined right angled corners with barely any rubbing, firm opening edges with no fraying, and all colours, art work and text remaining in fabulously crisp and vibrant condition with perfect definition still. There is a slightly "tacky" feel to all sides of the gatefold, adding to the "as new" feel of the sleeve and synonymous with 1st pressings. The only blemish (far too strong a word) is a single tiny "nick" about a third of the way up the spine. Note the pink circular hype label towards the top right corner of the front side - only available on 1st pressings, and again remaining in perfect condition. Exquisite! Near mint (NM ) stereo sound quality with no sticks, skips, repeats, distortion, clicks (just two barely noticeable static clicks on side 2) or background crackle - just wonderful sound quality throughout with great tone and crystal clear stereo reproduction. A tremendous listen and hard to believe that this copy is 40 years of age. Comes with original Alain Delon cardboard inner sleeve with no splits or tears, no edge scuffing or fraying, no creasing - again, near mint condition. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original. I don't use the term "near mint" too often but in this case have no hesitation whatsoever in describing every component of this wonderful record as absolutely "near mint"!

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
