The only album by The Smoke (not to be confused with the British band who had a hit with “My Friend Jack”) was a studio-only project helmed by Michael Lloyd of the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, assisted by the notorious L.A. impresario Kim Fowley. Released by Capitol Records’ subsidiary Sidewalk in 1968, the album was pressed in small quantities and sank like a stone, but it’s a gloriously warped slice of psychedelic pop that has earned a well-deserved cult following in the years since. The Smoke makes a fine companion to better-known contemporary works by WCPAEB, The Millennium, or Sagittarius. Original copies of this album are rare as hell, and here’s your chance to get your hands on one of them.

-Inch and a half seam split at the bottom opening. There’s a very tiny bit of ringwear (especially for a 45-year-old album with a white cover), but it’s in lovely shape otherwise.
VINYL: VG
-Moderate scuffing, but no serious scratches. Name written in pen on the label on one side. Tested it the other night, and it plays beautifully.
