Description
This is a UK original first pressing of one of the all time classic British garage/freakbeat albums, that is getting so much harder to find- and it has ALWAYS been difficult to track down!
It must have seemed a good idea to give The Sorrows a chance to make an lp after 'Take a Heart' was a minor hit, but really, nobody bought this album, which is a total shame, as it is a masterpiece. The liner notes credit the engineer as doing a particularly good job, and he did- this record is nothing like the murky Downliners Sect/Pretty Things (god bless 'em) records from the same era, and the crisp production lends the whole affair a LOT of power and intensity. Think of the 'take a heart' single, and how great and atmospheric Don Fardon's vocals are, multiply that by 12, then add stinging lead fuzz guitar and pounding, compressed drums. It is no way unjust to describe this as a totally amazing record!
Of the twelve songs, three are by the legendary Miki 'I'll give you love' Dallon, one is a freaked out Strangeloves cover (Cara-Lin), and three are band compostitions (which are standout tracks for me).
The condition is great!- there is minor surface marking and a few hairlines, but this is a mid sixties mono pressing on VERY heavy plastic, so they barely affect the sound at all! The record sounds absolutely brilliant, with no groovewear or distortion- it is a fantastic sounding copy!!!!!!!!! A tiny bit of surface noise (not a lot, by any means, and very quiet) is present in some of the silent grooves and a few of the quieter moments, of which there are few, but really nothing disturbing, by any means.The record still retains its surface shine, and is far away from the usual morass of scratches that mid sixties lps usually turn up as. There are no skips, no sticks- it plays brilliantly! Not a chipfryer! It must grade VG+!
The sleeve has no writing or damage, just the usual laminate wrinkling and corner wear. The flipbacks look great, the spine is readable, and the unlaminated back cover is unstained, with just a little overall yellowing- It grades Vg.
