Description

THE SQUIRES – Going All The Way With The Squires. Crypt Records CRYPT-008. German release. FACTORY SEALED NEW VINYL RECORD ALBUM + 7" VINYL SINGLE. This edition issued in 2015. Expanded and remastered reissue of the 1986 11-track Crypt release. Features 16-tracks plus a bonus 7” of their Atco single from 1966, Going All The Way b/w Go Ahead (that's a total of 18-tracks). Sourced from singles, studio recordings, demos, live, and rehearsal recordings. NOTE:  As printed on the jacket, Changing All The Times In My Life has a drop out at 40-seconds in, just so you don’t think it’s hearing loss on your end. MEMBERS:  Jim Lynch (guitar, backing vocals), John Folcik (bass), Tom Flanigan (lead guitar, backing vocals), Michael Bouyea (drums, rhythm guitar, lead vocals), and Kurt Robinson (organ). TRACKS, in running order:  It’s The Same All Over The World and Oh No (A & B side of their 1965 single, as by The Rogues). Demos/Live, probably 1966:  Changing All The Times In My Life, Go Ahead, Just Like Me, Lookin’ In Your Eyes, Farmer John, and I Fought The Law. Unreleased Capitol Records Studio, NYC, recordings, April 26, 1966:  The Original, I Can’t Do It, It’s The Same All Over The World, Walkin’, and We Can Try. Gloria (rehearsal tape from August of 1966). Live 1966:  Go Ahead and She’s Going Home. DESCRIPTION:  The following was written by Dave Furgess based on the earlier release, but covers all the bases along with some colorful minutiae, plus he mentions baseball; includes some slight editing by me:  “The Squires hailed from Bristol, Connecticut, which is a small working class city about 25 miles from the state capitol of Hartford. Bristol was once home to the Bristol Red Sox who were the AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox in the 70's & 80's, playing their home games at ultra cool Muzzy Field (which still stands to this day). Many of the Red Sox greats of the 70's such as Jim Rice, Fred Lynn, and later Bruce Hurst & Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd passed through Bristol. Outside of that, the only other notable landmark in Bristol is that it is the home base of "dork factory" ESPN network (a very uncool place!)

All that aside, The Squires began life as The Rogues and cut a cool garage 45 called It's The Same All Over The World in 1966. A name change to The Squires found the group signed as a "one off" with mega USA label Atco Records. Going All The Way is quite simply one of the top 10 USA garage 45's of the era. Musically it comes on as strong as 1966 Byrds blended with the toughness of the early Who. Lyrically it is in the same ballpark as Third Bardo's I'm 5 Years Ahead Of My Time & The Who's I Can See For Miles in that it is a teenage declaration of intent. Clear the field The Squires are coming through! I should also mention lead singer Mike Bouyea's vicious scream about midway in.

On the flip Go Ahead is in a different bag altogether, this one is a chiming folk-rock ballad that brings to mind California folk-rockers The Dovers. The lead vocals on this song remind me of a very young Feargal Sharkey of The Undertones. At one time this 45 was ultra rare but a warehouse find in the mid 80's leaked a few more copies onto the market. I got my copy in a swap with Connecticut radio legend "Fast Eddie" Budds for the first 45 by Squeeze, talk about a steal! That was like the Orioles getting Frank Robinson from Cincinnati for Milt Pappas!

For those unwilling to search out the 45, luckily Crypt Records issued a sensational Squires anthology simply titled Going All The Way back in the 80's,  it's a great album with many superb out-takes. Squires lead singer Mike Bouyea later became a radio personality in Canada.” So now you know what you’ve missed, but thanks to the continuing efforts of Crypt Records you have been given a second, and upgraded, golden opportunity. It’s yesterday today, man!

THIS ITEM IS NEW AND UNPLAYED. Used items will include condition details for the cover, disc, inserts, etc.

If you have any questions or if you have additional information, especially corrections, to the description, please e-mail me. I particularly enjoy when an artist, band member, or someone who has personal background knowledge of a particular album/artist and offers their insight/information of that recording, which I will include with the description for future listings of that release. As a collector of many years, part of the hobby side for me is to learn about the background of the artists and music that I collect. Hopefully, sharing some of this information in my descriptions will help educate and enhance your listening experience.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.

PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER CURRENTLY LISTED ITEMS AND EBAY STORE. There is also a section of additional LP titles in my eBay Store

All packages are shipped via first class package international service (air); this is the least expensive method of shipping internationally, but does not necessarily meet all the conditions of Paypal’s buyer/seller protection plan. First Class Package International Service does not offer tracking. NOTE:  First Class Package International Service has a 4 lb. weight limit, if your purchase exceeds that weight limit the next cheapest option is Priority Package International Service (usually up to 4 LPs will have a total weight less than 4 lbs.). Though quicker and safer, Priority Package International Service is determined at a higher rate than First Class Package International Service. If security is a major concern then please request Registered Mail, available upon request and at your expense, this is the least expensive method of providing extra security for your package and it allows the US post office to internally track your package should it become lost (I have yet to have a package lost via this method); actual postal charge for registration is $13.95 in addition to the shipping total (required on all bids/purchases totaling $100 or more; this will be included with the invoiced shipping total). Priority Mail International and Express Priority Mail International are available upon request and at your expense. If you have any special needs of your purchase or you have any questions please e-mail me.

RETURN POLICY:

Please e-mail me with specific details and I will get back to you with your options. I ask that if there is a problem with the item that you contact me as soon as possible after receiving it. Any item that must be returned is done so at the buyer’s expense. Any refund, exchange, or substitution/credit will be at the buyer’s choice, but not made until the original item is received back by me; in the condition as stated in the item description.

NON-ARRIVAL OF PACKAGES:

US Customers:  Please wait at least two weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. All packages are shipped with confirmation/tracking, you will received an automatically generated shipping notice from Ebay e-mail with your tracking number. It has been several years since I’ve had a package not make its US destination, so risk is minimal.

INTERNATIONAL Customers:  Please wait at least 3 weeks from my confirmed shipping date before contacting me about the non-arrival of your package. If security is your concern please have your package registered (see above for fee). I do my best to quickly post packages, but once the package is in the hands of the world’s postal system it is beyond my control. With First-Class Package International Service my only option for investigating the loss of your package is to verify that it left this country to its destination country. Most all delayed/lost packages have disappeared/been delayed after they have reached their destination country. NOTE:  Based on recent buyer feedback, International packages have been moving much slower these days; it is not unusual for a package to take over three weeks for delivery, though normally packages should arrive in 7 to 15 business days.

ALL CUSTOMERS:  If there is a problem with your purchase please e-mail me first with details before filing a resolution. I will file a non-payment resolution if payment is not received within 7 days of your purchase unless you contact me with your needs. However if, for any reason, you decide not to follow through with your purchase please avoid a non-payment resolution and initiate a cancellation of the sale; this is not a problem to which I will gladly respond in acceptance.
