We notice some differences compared to Amen! and Why (the two previous albums, both released on Epic label). In the upbeat tracks, Pray On exhibits higher energy levels. It is noticeable in the sound of the guitar, bass, and drums, which gain muscle and liveliness, but also in the vocals. I would say that in some of them –“It's Been a Change”, “Wish I Had Answered”– even fine traces of rhythm and blues filter through. At the same time, the songbook includes a couple of hymns with guitar and voice/voices - "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer" - which document the contemplative side of the group, a facet of their music that has little presence in the Epic recordings, only captured in this Pray On and the live album Freedom Highway. Regarding the singing, Pray On opts for a greater distribution of leadership roles. 'Pops,' who had been singing the most up front, gives up a large part of the privileged space to his children. Mavis surpasses her father on the soloist chart, Pervis maintains his small share, and Cleotha shines a bit more than usual.

(a)         WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)         The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)         Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·      THE COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-       Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-       Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging (nothing significant)

-       Minor shelf wear noted on the bottom seam (nothing significant)

-       Back cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there (BARELY VISIBLE)
