THE STONE ROSES
The Stone Roses

HERE WE HAVE A SUPERB UK Silvertone Records (ORE ZLP 502), LIMITED EDITION, NUMBERED 2 LP PRESSING (August 1991) OF THE STONE ROSES' TREMENDOUS DEBUT LP

THE 2 LPs ARE HOUSED IN A MATTE GATEFOLD SLEEVE WITH SLIVER LETTERING AND FRONT PRINTED LIMITED EDITION NUMBER - THIS COPY IS # 00059 WHICH IS NOT ONLY AN EXTREMELY LOW NUMBER, BUT THIS COPY ALSO CONTAINS AN ORIGINAL SILVERTONE PRESS RELEASE OUTLINING HOW THE LP IS "pressed on two 45 RPM discs for superior listening quality and raised volume" (see pics) - AND SPREADING THE TRACKS OVER FOUR SIDES REALLY DOES PAY DIVIDENDS AS THE AUDIO REPRODUCTION HERE IS SIMPLY STUNNING WITH A TREMENDOUS LOUD CUT, GREAT BASS RESPONSE AND CRYSTAL CLEAR, SHARP HIGHER REGISTERS
AN ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING PIECE OF WORK

MASSIVELY RARE NOT ONLY AS THE VERY LOW NUMBERED LIMITED 2 LP VARIANT CONTAINING AN ORIGINAL SILVERTONE PRESS RELEASE BUT ALSO BECAUSE IT'S IN SUCH BEAUTIFUL, BARELY PLAYED CONDITION

NOTE: I have not been able to ascertain how large this limited edition actually was but I have seen copies numbered in the 5,000s so my guess is it was probably an issue of maybe 7,500/10,000 which makes this copy #59 and incredibly desirable extremely low number

Since the Stone Roses were the nominal leaders of Britain's "Madchester" scene -- an indie rock phenomenon that fused guitar pop with drug-fueled rave and dance culture -- it's rather ironic that their eponymous debut only hints at dance music. What made the Stone Roses important was how they welcomed dance and pop together, treating them as if they were the same beast. Equally important was the Roses' cool, detached arrogance, which was personified by Ian Brown's nonchalant vocals. Brown's effortless malevolence is brought to life with songs that equal both his sentiments and his voice -- "I Wanna Be Adored," with it's creeping bassline and waves of cool guitar hooks, doesn't demand adoration, it just expects it. Similarly, Brown can claim "I Am the Resurrection" and lie back, as if there were no room for debate. But the key to The Stone Roses is John Squire's layers of simple, exceedingly catchy hooks and how the rhythm section of Reni and Mani always imply dance rhythms without overtly going into the disco. On "She Bangs the Drums" and "Elephant Stone," the hooks wind into the rhythm inseparably -- the '60s hooks and the rolling beats manage to convey the colorful, neo-psychedelic world of acid house. Squire's riffs are bright and catchy, recalling the British Invasion while suggesting the future with their phased, echoey effects. The Stone Roses was a two-fold revolution -- it brought dance music to an audience that was previously obsessed with droning guitars, while it revived the concept of classic pop songwriting, and the repercussions of its achievement could be heard throughout the '90s, even if the Stone Roses could never achieve this level of brilliance again.

Track Listing:
Side One: I Wanna Be Adored / She Bangs The Drums
Side Two: Waterfall / Don't Stop / Bye Bye Badman
Side Three: Elizabeth My Dear / (Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister / Made Of Stone / Shoot You Down
Side Four: This Is The One / I Am The Resurrection

LABELS: The labels are CLEAN and BRIGHT with NO wear, NO writing and only ONE light spindle mark on each side. I WOULD SAY THAT THIS COPY HAS BEEN PLAYED JUST ONCE OR TWICE
VINYL Visual: All surfaces have their original DEEP, LIKE-NEW, GLOSSY SHEEN. There are a couple of superficial light marks but these have absolutely NO audio consequence WHATSOEVER
VINYL Audio: The audio is absolutely OUTSTANDING - CRYSTAL CLEAR, VERY STRONG, RICH and VIBRANT. There are NO scratches, NO sticks, NO jumps, NO clicks/pops. Beautiful NEAR MINT audio throughout - Sounds ABSOLUTELY SUBERB and NEVER SOUNDED BETTER. There is NO groove-wear and NO distortion as this LP has barely been played. NOT over-graded in ANY way as I use STRICT RECORD COLLECTOR grading standards (please refer to my feedback and 'about me' page)
SLEEVE: The numbered, matte GATEFOLD sleeve is in EXCELLENT condition. CLEAN and UNMARKED with a nice THICK SPINE with clear text. There is some storage rubbing to the top and bottom edges but nothing major. GREAT SLEEVE
PRESS RELEASE: The Silvertone press release is CLEAN and UNMARKED with just one light crease to the bottom corner
