THE STOOGES "FUNHOUSE" 80s Euro re of 1970 LP edition of the classic Detroit Garage Rock group (Elektra) 7559-60669-2 M-/M-. Exact reissue of the classic 2nd LP by Iggy & Co. featuring "Dirt", "T.V. Eye", "Down On The Street" & the title track. Produced by Don Galucci.
Jim Osterberg was nicknamed Iggy while a drummer with the Ann Arbor garage band The Iguanas. The name stuck & one of Rock Music's most unique personalities was born. He was just a clean cut high school kid at first but after a few years & a strong dose of Mick Jagger's stage presence, he emerged as lead singer & songwriter of his own band. The Stooges were the1960s prototype of the Punk Rock movement of the 1970s combining a sneering attitude with teenage angst. Signed to Elektra Records in 1968, the first album (produced by VU alumnus John Cale) was like no other record of the era but failed to find its niche despite the sheer audacity of its presentation. The band went to Elektra Sound Studios in L.A to record “Funhouse” in 1970- the follow-up album of their two LP deal with the label. Don Galucci, the keyboardist from Northwest Garage group Don & the Goodtimes, was brought in to produce. The Stooges consisting of the Asheton brothers Ron (lead guitar) & Scott (drums) plus Dave Alexander (bass) & Iggy (vocals) were augmented by Steven Mackay on tenor sax on some cuts. The ballzy Detroit sound was not abandoned on this record however. Just the titles alone gives one an idea of the music contained here- “T.V. Eye”, “Loose”, “Down On The Street” & personal favorite “Dirt”. Again, the record didn't do well at the time but is considered a classic today. It took David Bowie to alter the fortunes of Iggy & the Stooges with “Raw Power” three years later but 1970s “Funhouse” is an essential place to start.

This 80s Euro pressing has a non-gatefold cover (slightly different than the U.S. issue). It is intact & looks nearly new with only faint corner wear to distract it from a MINT grading. Record w/white Elektra logo against a black background has no spindle marks. It has received very few plays & looks MINT except for a slight 1" scuff on the first two tracks on side 2 that does not affect play. Sounds great!
