Black and White is the third studio album by English new wave band the Stranglers. It was released on 12 May 1978, through record label United Artists in most of the world and A&M in America Black and White was released on 12 May 1978. The album peaked at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart, spending eighteen weeks on the chart The US version of the album, on the A&M label, was pressed on black and white ( Grey )marbled vinyl
Black And White is easily the Stranglers' most underrated album. While their first two legendary records, Rattus Norvegicus and No More Heroes are The Stranglers undisputed best albums, Black And White is not that far off. It completes a trilogy of three near perfect LPs. The musicianship on Black And White is absolutely stunning. JJ Burnel's bass is a raging beast, Hugh Cornwell puts in some of his best ever guitar playing, Dave Greenfield's ultra-creative keyboards are in full display and Jet Black's drumming shows how criminally unknown he is. While this album should be played in it's entirety, some of the brilliant highlights include "Tank", "Nice 'N' Sleazy", the iconic "Toiler On The Sea", "Hey! (Rise Of The Robots)", "Sweden (All Quiet On The Eastern Front)", "Curfew", the menacing "Threatened" and the great "Death And Night And Blood (Yukio)". Truly a monster record that has grown in stature over time.
The Stranglers are an English rock band who emerged via the punk rockscene. Scoring 23 UK top 40 singles and 19 UK top 40 albums to date in a career spanning five decades, the Stranglers are one of the longest-surviving bands to have originated in the UK punk scene.1
