Description

MONSTER TIME!!! I'm proud to present one of the rarest Dutch 60's picture sleeve singles around! The 1966 Dutch picture sleeve copy of UK mod freakbeat band The Untamed. "It's not true" was written by Pete Townshend of the Who that also issued this song on vinyl. This version is just as good as theirs! B-side: "Gimme, gimme some shade". Superb stuff!!! See scans.

Led by guitarist/songwriter Lindsay Muir, The Untamed recorded only five singles between 1964 and 1966, none of which were even minor hits, but are highly-prized today among Freakbeat collectors. This demonstrated a level of crossover between mod and R&B roots making use of the organ as well as guitar. Lindsay's group were a little unusual in that their sound relied upon Ray Jarvis' Hammond organ, instead of the customary electric guitars favoured by most Beat outfits of the time. Speaking of guitars, Jimmy Page, played on their original version of James Brown's I'll Be Crazy.

The Untamed's producer was Shel Talmy, of Who, Kinks, and Creation fame, and he signed the group to his short-lived Planet label. From that connection came their cover of It's Not True - from the Who's debut album - which appeared on one of their 45s.

Label: Philips JF 333 509. Condition record/cover: vg+ to ex- (some small hardly audible surface marks only, some remains of tape on b-side of label) / ex- (some pencil on back and some tiny wrinkles). Incredible rare 1966 Dutch picture sleeve copy of UK Planet single. UK copies (that never came with a picture sleeve) are rarely offered but this monster is one of the rarest UK beat Dutch picture sleeve copies ever!!!

IMPOSSIBLE FIND!!! BID NOW OR CRY LATER!!! No serious 60's freakbeat collection is complete without this monster rarity !!! I don't think this will come again soon ... if at all !!!
