This is the ORIGINAL 1967 FIRST PRESSING of THE VELVET UNDERGROUND AND NICO by THE VELVET UNDERGROUND on Verve Records.  It is the V-5008 MONO TORSO SLEEVE WITH LAWSUIT STICKER.


This LP changed everything!  It was a turning point in the history of Rock music -- a combination of amazing, shocking art and piercing, raw Rock and Roll. For those of us not privileged enough to be able to afford genuine Warhol oil paintings, this is the (Rockin) next best thing. A true piece of art in every sense of the word.
Imagine buying this LP 50 years ago, in 1967. You're listening to this music that you've never heard the likes of before, hoping that your mom doesn't hear it. You look to the sleeve to find out more about this strange but intriguing bunch of people. Then there`s that banana. PEEL SLOWLY AND SEE. It's Rock and Roll Genius.
This UNPEELED sleeve is in nice condition, with some age discoloration around the perimeter of the front and some light ring wear on the left side of the back. There is a 3/4" seam split on the upper right corner of the back of the gatefold. 
Obviously, it's better when the banana is completely intact; however, the way this one's been cut -- revealing just the tip --   strangely, it looks extremely cool this way.  The inside is clean with some perimeter age discoloration.
All the spinal writings are clear and fully legible on this thick, wide spine.
The Vinyl grades VG with rubs and  many hairlines. The LP plays well with no skips.  There is some background noise which does not overpower the music.
The TORSO covers were the very FIRST PRESSINGS, so called because they used a photo of one of the dancers -- Eric Emmerson's -- Torso on the back of the LP and inverted the shot over a picture of the band. Because they never asked Eric for his permission and never paid him, he threatened to take the band to court. Clever lad.
The album covers that were sold baring Eric Emerson's Torso are exceptionally rare. The ones that Verve records had covered with these special LAWSUIT STICKERS are much MUCH RARER and are without the slightest shadow of a doubt, the
RAREST OF THEM ALL !
These special lawsuit stickers proved very costly to utilize, more so than having the sleeves with Eric on them airbrushed out, which is what they did with the rest.

The vinyl has been removed from the sleeve and placed into a Mofi Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Original Master Sleeve.  These Archival Quality, Non Scratching, Anti Static sleeves are the highest quality inner sleeves available. 

Cardboard stabilizers will be used, and bubble wrap will safely and securely float the album.
