The vast majority of Promo`s of this LP were pressed at Verve`s EAST COAST pressing plant and had the YELLOW LABELS. FUTHERMORE and this is a BIG ONE ! And it puts all the UK record collectors FIRMLY RIGHT IN THE GAME !!! UK bidders are usually on the back foot or can`t even get involved in auctions for this rarity stateside due to the high prices that this record commands, on top of that the crown always want their chunk of flesh by taxing the hell out of it (EVEN THE POSTAGE GETS TAXED).....

This ragtag bunch of the most talented bohemians ever assemble into a single rock band CHANGED THE WORLD. Never mind the Beatles CRYPTICALLY singing about L.S.D. WITH Lucy in the  Sky with Diamonds, this bunch came RIGHT OUT WITH IT, with Lou`s masterpiece HEROIN, "its my wife and its my Life". Back in 1967 singing about SADOMASOCHISM ,TRANSVESTISM, HOMOSEXUALITY and DRUG ADDICTION all the fun stuff, back then in 1967??  LITERALLY DECADES AHEAD OF ITS TIME !!!!
Lou Reed`s writing here SHOWCASED the fact that his compositions were at least the equal of Lennon & McCartney  Jagger & Richards and Bob Dylan in terms of his perspicacity and foresight to such a degree, I put this groundbreaking album right up there in the musical artistic sphere, right alongside what Leonardo Da Vinci did to Paint and Canvas with his discovery of perspective.  This LP is the equivalant of that in MUSIC . This album opened the floodgates for ALL OTHERS TO FOLLOW !

Where REED`s TRUE GENIUS is MILES ahead of his counterparts is, he sang about  New York`s wilder side that  NO OTHER WRITERS WOULD TOUCH ! He wrote and sang about HIS societies most disenfranchised members that all those other great writers (and the rest of the world back then had overlooked or looked down upon or had completely forgotten). 
Every societies LOWEST OF THE LOW !!
THAT IS WHAT GIVES THIS ALBUM IT`S ARTISTIC NOBILITY !!!
AND THAT LADIES AND GENTLEMEN IS TRUE ART !!!!

This album TRULY DESERVES all the credit that gets put onto Sergeant Peppers lonely Hearts club band. To quote Lou Reed... "I don`t want to get all negative but that`s just a bunch of trash I did`nt like it, it`s a waste of good plastic". 
In the late 60`s this album must have sounded as if it were from 40 years into the future. It still sounds 40 years ahead of time now. This band through the medium of TRUE ART in the form of music, documented the epoch of the SLEAZY WILD SIDE of life in one of the most ALIVE cities on the planet, NEW YORK. That is one of the many fundamental reasons of why this piece of work is so important. The Beatles are the most successful group in history.
THE VELVET UNDERGROUND ARE THE MOST INFLUENTIAL.

THE SLEEVE: 
This sleeve is made of the heaviest card stock I have ever seen on an album jacket.  The thick strong front panel has sadly been peeled completely but the front panel is very firmly attached a considering it is almost 60 years old in very fine shape ! There is edge wear to the front and back and some stains visible if you double click the pictures, but overall I think it is very respectable with no unwanted doodling or handwriting anywhere on the item.
THE SPINE: The Widest spine ever does have slight damage and some of the lettering has worn away (double click the spinal pictures) but again.. Pretty respectable I myself have seen much worse. This spine has retained a VERY FIRM attachment to both the front and back panels (the whole thing is very very much together). 
THE BACK PANEL is CLEAN and STRONG and has Eric Emerson`s Torso above the bands portrait ghosting over  Lou`s face. Hence the sub title THE TORSO SLEEVE. This torso picture authenticates this to be the very earliest FIRST sleeve they ever printed. The lawsuit Emmerson instigated delayed the album release as nobody asked permission to use his body and all later sleeves had Eric`s Torso covered with a sticker or removed altogether. The band portaits at the bottom are in fine shape and the coulars are still very vibrant.
INSIDE THE GATEFOLD: Really bright, yes there is slight edge dulling and very slight foxing visible, but the white areas are very bright. There is some damage to the paste over on the inside of the spine visible in one of the pictures a little over an inch in length however this is only to the paste over and has not affected the card stock at all. 
The original Verve inner sleeve is here and has a small tear at the top colour staining and creases I would grade it a conservative VG+.
The labels: Both Sides one and two labels are bright and clean with no doodling or handwriting anywhere at all, lovely. 
The vinyl: I am going to give a track by track appraisal of how this LP plays.
Back in the 60`s records were made with a heavier blend of materials and more shellac was used making the product TOUGHER and much more durable than records that came later. but this MONO pressing packs a real punch. The mix of this White label Promo is an alternate mix to the Blue Label stock copies that we all know and love and yes this White Label Promo is the rarest pressing in existence, that on the track VENUS IN FURS approaching verse 2 the volume goes up REALLY LOUD.  I think they should have left that in and put it on all the stock copies.
These high shellac blended records are much more durable than the records that followed later especially following the world oil shortage of 73 and they never got back to the quality of the old days. Testament to the adage " they don`t make em like they used to". Played really loud this Promo is an experience to be savoured. BIG AND BOLD IN MONO AURAL RIGHT IN YOUR FACE.
Side 1 SUNDAY MORNING. Clicks every revolution for approximately 40 seconds then its plays perfect 8/10.
I`M WAITING FOR THE MAN. Perfect 10/10.
FEMME FATAL. Slight background noise 8/10.
VENUS IN FURS. 10/10.
RUN RUN RUN. 10/10.
ALL TOMORROWS PARTIES. 10/10.
Side 2.
HEROIN. Background noise and some clicks during first minute and in the quieter passages. 8/10.
THERE SHE GOES AGAIN. 9/10.
I`ll BE YOUR MIRROR. Slight background noise 8/10.
THE BLACK ANGELS DEATH SONG. Background noise 8/10.
EUROPEAN SON. Plays very well 9/10.
Cosmetically there are many hair lines to both sides of this LP but they are so light. I have tried to capture this in the pictures but there is nothing feelable at all, it still has a very nice sheen as the light catches it so it would be visually graded as VG+ but this LP plays way better than that it plays EXCELLENT MINUS. 
A copy of this WHITE LABEL PROMO of THE VELVET UNDERGROUND AND NICO in top flight condition will cost you £6000.00 to £8000.00 and rising as the years fly by and 
DONT FORGET !!!
