This is an original UK 1968 first pressing of The Velvet Underground by the Velvet Underground also known as "the quiet album" in STEREO. The Velvet`s got a "STANDARD SLEEVE" (music exec talk) for a "none gate fold" sleeve on this album as it was not expected to sell in large numbers,so the original first run was tiny.
This is an impossibly rare album to get your hands on. All the information above authenticates this pressing right here to be the very earliest pressing of this now classic LP. As you can see its a front laminated flip back sleeve, and what authenticates this as the very earliest sleeve they ever printed is the picture of Lou Reed smoking a joint being split in teo but split horizontally. Over the following 5 years Lou Reed gained more traction with his Transformer ,and Walk On The Wild Side success and David Bowie was very kindly name dropping him at every chance as being a huge influence and so this original classic was re pressed a number of times. ALL the later pressings carried the very same back photo of REED with his WEED only this time the picture was sliced in half VERTICALLY.
The sleeve is in fantastic condition with only very slight damage to be expected on a 57 year old record. Look to the front lamination near the spine there is a few laminate cracks but nothing too serious.  Slight corner dings again nothing too bad. The back is really clean and there is no unwanted handwriting or doodling anywhere on this item. The spine also has a few cracks and all the lettering is there but the R in the word underground, so I am happy to grade the sleeve as EXCELLENT MINUS. The original inner sleeve is here and the cellophane is very firmly attached.   Both the labels have trails around the spindle hole but are blemish free and are really clean.
The vinyl has a beautiful high luster sheen, there are very light spidery web hairlines to both sides but the album plays through its entirety without jumps skipping or sticking. There is the odd background noise when you listen with an ultra critical ear, however its so sparse and pretty insignificant, this really is a quiet album but there is absolutely nothing that spoils the listeners enjoyment I test played this 3 times.  I myself could`nt fault the playback. Id give playback 98/100 . What a great and very underestimated LP. Lou Reed I think really shows his guitar skills off on this album but with a unique subtlety.  Was there ever a cooler rockstar ??? The vinyl is graded as EXELLENT MINUS.
