THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO GF LP WITH INTACT BANANA

    From 1967 comes this original stereo pressing of rock's all-time landmark LP The Velvet Underground & Nico (Verve V6-5008) - with banana sticker intact and 4 1/2" x 11 1/4" sticker over Eric Emerson's upside-down torso (airbrushed out of subsequent pressings when the actor demanded compensation for use of his image) in the back cover shot of the group performing live.  Contrary to the popular belief that this record was unjustly ignored at the time of its initial release, the album had actually charted and was performing reasonably well (perhaps due more to the use of patron Andy Warhol's name and the controversy over some of the songs' subject matter rather than the actual potency of the music therein), but once Emerson made his demand, it was recalled for a few weeks while the stickers were affixed to their back covers.  By the time they were back in the shops, all momentum had been lost and the record failed to re-chart.  Thanks, Eric.
   The gatefold sleeve is in excellent condition with some minor ring and mouth wear in addition to a touch of scuffing and creasing, but overall is very well preserved for a 42 year-old predominately white cover - the inside of the gatefold is particularly clean.  Warhol's infamously subversive banana sticker is intact, although there are a couple of traces of a curious previous owner attempting to sneak a peek as to what lies beneath (some minor wrinkling at its very tip and a couple miniscule tears at its left edge about 3" down).  The LP itself is housed in its original stock Verve company innersleeve and is near mint.  
  To protect your investment, this LP - as with all vinyl purchased at The Great Escape Online - will be placed in a new plastic outer sleeve prior to packing and shipping.
