Here is an original UK stereo LP copy of A Candle for Judith by The Way We Live - one of the rarest, most accomplished and sought-after album's on John Peel's delightful Dandelion label (DAN 8004) of 1971. The beautiful colourful Dandelion labels show very little spindle activity (see photos), indicating little play over the years, but the disc shows up a number of surface marks when examined under halogen lighting, including one tiny mark which produces a few little ticks on the furious instrumental, Siderial, on Side One, and one (less than 1cm long) feelable mark between tracks two and three on Side Two, resulting in a light popping to be heard on the delicate instrumental 'Magrigal' as well as on the quiet intro to 'The Way Ahead' ... though this intrusion is quickly gone as the latter track kicks in. Apart from these light aural intrusions both sides of the album play well without jumping, sticking or clicking, and the music is bright and clear with just a little occasional light background noise (certainly not the background crackle of well-worn grooves from an abused record). Both sides of the disc are shiny and black and the disc lies perfectly flat on the turntable. Be assured that this disc does not suffer from the usual depressing morass of marks that denotes an uncared for or abused record. This rare original disc is graded in Good condition (UK Record Collector grading). The lovely original unlaminated Garrod & Lofthouse 'patent pending' gatefold sleeve is a comfortable VG+, and is in fine strong condition with no unwanted writing, sticker tears or rips and only the odd little mark or indentation and a little rubbing and slight edgewear here and there. This sleeve also boasts a good solid spine with all text fully and clearly readable (see photos) - a rarity on this vulnerable unlaminated gatefold. The sleevenotes tell the full story of how this multi-talented duo (later to become Tractor, of course) came to John Peel's attention ... and how everyone initially thought the unknown duo's amazing demo tape that arrived on John Peel's desk was a giant leg-pull by some established superstars. In fact there's some serious heavy riffing in places on this album, and on tracks like King Dick II and Storm you might be forgiven for thinking you were listening to early Black Sabbath. But if you thought Side One was amazing just check out the three tracks that make up Side Two. I love the fact that The Way We Live conclude their album with 'The Way Ahead' - a lengthy last track that is superlative psych and really the band's own 'Saucerful of Secrets' (and yet there's only two of them!). Jim Milne, what a talent. They don't make 'em like that any more. Incredible! A Candle For Judith is truly a phenomenal album, cruelly overlooked at the time, and here is a very reasonable playable original copy together with its lovely original gatefold sleeve.
