Description

THE WHO Live At Leeds, NR/MINT LP + SLEEVE!!! A1/B1

The Who Live At Leeds.

1970 UK pressed Track Records stereo LP, 2406 001, housed in fragile fold-out sleeve with red print to front panel and inserts.

Earliest issue A1/B1 matrix suffixes.

This LP was acquired as part of a small batch from a private collection. The LP has clearly been very little played and stored in careful conditions for the last forty years or so.

Vinyl in superb near mint condition. Just a very few spider trace marks visible at centre spindle areas. Surfaces have a rich and bright gloss and are free of any marks. Hard to even detect any sleeve removal hairlines!

Playback is absolutely superb throughout. No background noise, crackle or pops, and a clear and rich recording. The silent bands between tracks are just that - totally silent bands!

Labels have a nice and shiny gloss still, and neither has any damage, stickers, inscriptions etc.

Gatefold sleeve is of notoriously fragile construction, being a matt buff design only held together by a single staple at each side. This has survived in absolutely breathtaking condition. No pen, sticker or grubby handling marks to any of the surfaces. No creasing and true firm edges which have not scuffed. The staples have not rusted, and display no pulling or tearing. There is just a touch of a knock to the top left hand corner, and some minor age tanning to spine and top and bottom edges, but this is pretty minimal.

Contains eleven laid in inserts, possibly one short. However, the larger poster and glossy b/w band photo are both present. The inserts are all as near mint as you could get, with just a touch of creasing to the top edge of two of the A4 size inserts. The yellow inserts with this release are remarkably thin in construction.

Note that all the inserts have clear and bright print, and are printed on various sizes and types of paper. Later issues tended to standardise the inserts, and print clarity began to worsen with subsequent reissues.

Inner sleeve is poly lined die cut white paper and in excellent condition with just some age darkening to the glued areas.

In summary, as close to a final upgrade copy as you could hope for. The only copies out there in anything approaching this condition will be unplayed stock copies and those in well kept private collections. As soon as this LP hits the open market deterioration is inevitable. The sleeve soon falls apart and becomes grubby, with the inserts following suit and becoming tatty and creased. And on top of all this few copies will have the flawless playback this one has.

A Note On Grading:

Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.

Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl. Instances of crackle near the beginning of sides can often be improved with cleaning, as these areas of the vinyl surfaces are the most prone to debris from handling.
