THE WHO - MEATY, BEATY, BIG AND BOUNCY. 1971.
RIGHT ON RECORDS, SERIAL R 198. STEREO.
Here's one for the collector! The elusive "Meaty, Beaty" featuring the R.Crumb style cover. Robert Crumb is an American artist and musician, known for his distinctive style of drawings. He did a very similar drawing of a rather buxom lady, and may have done this one. There is so little information on this album that it's hard to know for sure. In fact, it's not even clear whether it is an official release or not, as it features the same tracklisting as the normal issue, and a picture of it appears in The Who's 2000 Tour programme. Also, on the rear of the cover it states that "This stereo record complies with all of the requirements of federal law" and gives the relevant legal codes, and "All royalties required to be paid by federal law have been paid." R. Crumb records lists it under their "R.Crumb Bootlegs" releases heading, and even lists it as one of their "WANTED" items!! Using their scale of one to five stars for rarity, it rates five stars, So, it really is a RARE one. Here's the gradings.
The sleeve is a thick card type, the ring wear you can see on the photo is on the surface only, and has not gone through the card. It is smooth to the touch, and has no ridges.The rear of the sleeve shows some minor age spotting, again pictured. The spine has some light rubbing as does the top and bottom edges, NOT gone through the card, surface only. The opening edges are still sharp, with only the faintest nick on one side at the bottom. For a 40 year old cover, it's lasted amazingly well.
The record is still shiny, flat, with only a few light scratches and surface marks. The labels are clean, with only a few spindle marks which can only be seen when angled into light. It's housed in a generic paper sleeve.
I have been collecting Who albums and memorabilia for over 20 years, and to this day I cannot find any more information on this album.
