Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have collected over a period of more than 45 years! 1st UK pressing of The Who's 1966 "A Quick One" an album  on the Reaction labels. Features early A#1 and B#2 Matrix endings This album is complete with the original E.J.Day & Co Fully laminatred cover! (Note! This album is listed for its collectability and rarety rather than for its condition. There is general wear and tear on the cover in the form of rubbing, some laminate lifting in the laminate,creases,some corner bumping etc. graded at excellent in my opinion)  The mono audio is truly stunning through out! The audio is graded at Very Near Mint throughout in my opinion!  No loud constant clicks or pops! Importantly play tested at loud volume on a top system using a dedicated mono cartridge So rich and vibrant throughout!

A Quick One is the second studio album by the English rock band The Who, released on 9 December 1966. The album was also released under the title Happy Jack on Decca Records in the United States, where the song "Happy Jack" was a top 40 hit.





The Who's second studio album departs from the R&B emphasis of the first.




Part of the marketing push for the album was a requirement that each band member should write at least two of the songs on it, though Roger Daltrey only wrote one, so this is The Who album least dominated by Pete Townshend's songwriting. It was recorded at IBC Studios, Pye Studios, and Regent Sound in London England in 1966 by record producer Kit Lambert.




"Boris the Spider" was written after John Entwistle had been out drinking with the Rolling Stones' bassist Bill Wyman. They were making up funny names for animals when Entwistle came up with the song. The chorus utilises vocals that influenced the vocal style of death metal singers. "Boris the Spider" quickly became Entwistle's most popular song, still performed decades later: in later years he often wore a spider necklace. "Happy Jack", though quirky, remains a favourite.





"Heat Wave", the only cover-version and the only reversion to the group's soul influences, a song by Tamla's Holland–Dozier–Holland team, was replaced by "Happy Jack" on the original US release but included on the 1974 double album repackaging of A Quick One and The Who Sell Out.




"A Quick One, While He's Away", the title track of the LP, is a nine-minute suite of song snippets telling a story of infidelity and reconciliation, a first foray into extended form that led to the so-called "rock operas" Tommy and Quadrophenia.




Keith Moon's "I Need You", was originally titled "I Need You (Like I Need a Hole in the Head)". Moon thought The Beatles spoke in a secret language behind his back, and this song was his way of getting back at them. Although Moon denied that a vocal part in the song was a John Lennon imitation, Entwistle said that, in fact, it was.




"Cobwebs and Strange" was originally called "Showbiz Sonata", though Entwistle claimed that the melody came from the UK television series Man From Interpol.





The mod/pop number "So Sad About Us", according to AllMusic, is "one of the Who's most covered songs". The Merseys, Shaun Cassidy, Primal Scream, The Breeders and The Jam have recorded studio versions.




Each band member played a wind instrument on "Cobwebs and Strange": Townshend played the penny-whistle, Entwistle on the French horn, Daltrey on the trombone, and Moon on the tuba




The album was intended to be pop music, a sonic participant in the pop art movement. The cover was designed by the pop art exponent Alan Aldridge,[3] with the front cover depicting the band playing their instruments, as the titles of some songs form the album come out of the instruments in the form of onomatopoeiae: "Cobwebs and Strange" for Moon , "Whiskey Man" for Entwistle (bottom left), "See My Way" for Daltrey (top right), and "A Quick One, While He's Away" for Townshend . The back cover of the UK release is black, with the title and track listing across the top, and a colour head-shot photograph of each band member with the letters of "The W H O" superimposed individually over their faces. The back cover of the US release is a black-and-white photo montage of the band members accompanied by a short personality sketch of each (infamous among Who fans for Keith Moon's humorous assertion that he was keen on "breeding chickens"). A track listing, a couple of paragraphs touting the band, an ad for their first album, and a technical blurb are also crowded onto the back cover of the US release.

The Vinyl
On initial visual inspection the vinyl looks absolutely superb, and I can't see or feel any scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all! Any marks that could possibly be seen would be light whypsy surface scuffs/scratches and sleeve removal type only.. ,  This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and are free from any warping. (Note! I have double checked this) The vinyl looks superb, still retaining its original glossy sheen from new.  Importantly  (no) deep needle scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks/ticks or pops at all!

The Audio Quality
I have played the vinyl prior to listing on a top system at very loud volume,, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge! The audio is superbe cristal clear and very vibrant throughout! Top mono audio on all frequencies only heard like this on early original 1st mono pressings! Note! so vibrant and clear, you will not find a better sounding album!  Any interference in the form of isolated static type tick that may be heard in quiet places was minor in my opinion and nothing that spoilt the overall enjoyment. Importantly there were no loud constant clicks/ticks, pops or any jumps truly awesome and very rare for a 1st pressing. The audio is graded at Very Near as Mint in my opinion!

PLEASE NOTE! I always add this disclaimer! I have played this album prior to listing as usual and have given my honest opinion on the audio quality. Please remember this is a 50 years old original vinyl (not a reissue) Please allow for the odd interference/static/crackle/tick but importantly nothing consistant through out the audio! Please remember  that this would have been originally played on a system that is 50 years old!
All indications i.e. that this vinyl has (not) been overplayed in my personal opinion, and the audio quality superbe on all frequencies.
 
The labels
This features the blue textured "REACTION" labels. These are superbe spidering can be seen when angled to the light. This has obviously been played but all indications are that this has not been overplayed in my opinion. and little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round! 

The Record Sleeve
This is the original plain white paper sleeve, non poly lined and patented. No splits or tears light creasing/fading/browning with age.   The vinyl is now always stored seperately from the sleeve.

The cover
The original 1st issue E.J.Day & Co   fully laminated cover There are (no) edge splits or tears. Note: there is some general storage wear in the form of some laminate creases on the front to mention but just thumb creases at the rear and some corner bumping. Some slight rubbing wear to mention (being primarily dark in color.)  There is some laminate lifting to mention at the front and rear near the spine end, (Common on this cover) Any other imperfections or indents are very minor and are not noticed unless looked for in my opinion.  Graded at excellent in my opinion!
