This first pressing plays to an incredible standard with barely any background, the playback is stunning.  There is no interference as such, just three minor static sounds on the opening track and 4/5 very quiet ticks on the rest of the album and I do mean very quiet!  The clarity, depth, power and warmth of the audio is so impressive and you would not be disappointed if you had just bought this LP brand new!  Remember it is just over 50 years old!  The vinyls are visually stunning and have been very carefully looked after down the years.

The cover is in superb condition with no real wear, I have never ever seen a better one.  As described below the only negative is that the inner booklet is no longer attached to the lyric pages which are still attached to the cover.  The lyric pages and photo booklet are however in great condition with no marking etc.  The two poly-lined inners just have some creasing.

This is known as the third variation of the first press.  Three out of four run offs have the Delta (▽) symbol.

Visual description

The vinyls are in lovely condition and still have an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  The first record just has one hairline that is a little more obvious but it is still relatively faint and can only be seen when you hold it at a certain angle.  The second record is visually stunning also and I can only make out a couple of ultra faint hairlines.  In all my years I have never seen this album looking as clean and shiny as this!  There is obviously no groove wear or bag 'rash' and the run out grooves are very clean also.  The Track Record labels are in superb shape with only very minimal spindle wear.

Play grading

'I Am The Sea' begins this classic album with superb audio.  The intro is so loud!  There are 3/4 very minor static sounds near the beginning but the remainder plays with incredible clarity and depth.  A Near Mint start.

'The Real Me' then plays with stunning quality with no background and again the depth and definition of the audio is phenomenal.  Entwistle's deep bass of course helps this considerably and the sonic quality has certainly not been affected by the passage of time.  Mint

The segue into 'Quadrophenia' is perfect and this instrumental continues to play with... perfect clarity.  Can't believe what I'm listening to truth be told!  If you win this just listen to the first quiet section, the clarity is just sensational.  Every section plays with sublime quality, it has the clinical precision of a CD but with the warmth and depth you only find on a clean vinyl.  Even the fade out plays perfectly with not even a single dust tick.  Mint is again deserved.

'Cut My Hair' keeps up the standard with no background from start to finish.  Stunning separation once more - each note is so clean, sharp and precise.  The radiophonic spoken section provides another fine example of the clarity on offer here as it has no intrusion at all.  Mint

'The Punk And The Godfather' ends the side with real quality.  There is perhaps just a hint of inner groove distortion on the more high powered sections but it is so minimal and totally non-intrusive.  It's hardly worth a mention really because yes it is the final track.  It is still a superb rendition and there are no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  Let's say Mint-

The acoustic intro on 'I'm One' is flawless and the the only background here is one light tick on the first chorus so I will say Mint-

'The Dirty Jobs', 'Helpless Dancer' and 'Is It In My Head?' all play with a clarity and definition that is second to none.  Put simply there is no background at all, not even a solitary dust tick, and Mint is very much deserved.

From the word go 'I've Had Enough' plays with such strong audio - real power and depth and the opening vocal is on the same level.  Thereafter it plays with sublime clarity and the quieter mid vocal is a prime example of that.  Right to the end it plays so clearly and Mint is again fair.

The 'spoken' intro on '5:15' again defies all logic!  Not so much as a dust tick and Townshend's opening vocal is just as clean.  As the volume increases the playback is superb and Daltrey's first vocal is faultless and this classic drives along with tremendous power and depth and of course... no interference.  The choruses play with such precision and the instrumental end section / vocal has no intrusion either.  Mint

The 'sea' intro on 'Sea And Sand' has no background and from then onwards plays with stunning quality.  I did notice one very quiet tick about three minutes but it's so quiet you could easily miss it.  Mint- might be little harsh!

'Drowned' is so close to perfect with only a handful of very quiet statics during the Set me free vocal towards the end.  So quiet and it still deserves a Mint- grade.

'Bell Boy' plays with unbelievable audio with no sign of any interference.  Moon's inimitable vocal is faultless and every section plays with exceptional quality.  This album has been so well looked after that's for sure!  Mint

The 'intro' on the classic 'Doctor Jimmy' plays perfectly and Daltrey's opening vocal section is of the same standard.  It continues in the same precise way.  This clocks in at over 8 minutes of course and yet the sonic quality though every section is like you've been transported back to '73!  This truly is spectacular audio and the end section is again out of this world!  I have never heard like clarity like it before on this album.  This is Mint every day of the week!

'The Rock' again plays with unrivalled quality, like it's never been played before!  Mint

The entire intro on 'Love, Reign O'er Me' plays beautifully with only one very light tick and Daltrey's opening vocal section has no intrusion at all.  From then on it plays with genuine quality and you cannot help but admire the quality of the audio considering it is the final track.  There is no inner groove distortion and the instrumental sections play with such depth and power.  Stunning work from Moon at the end and Mint- is fair.  What an album!

The Gatefold, Lyric Booklet & Inner Sleeves

The cover is in beautiful condition with barely any wear.  In fact the only downside is that the inner booklet is not attached any longer to the front and back page that contain the lyrics.  Those two pages are still 100% attached to the cover.  The staples holding the photo booklet together are still perfectly in place.  As for the rest of the cover - simply stunning!  The edges are incredibly clean and I have never seen another spine like it!  So wide and strong with zero wear.  The corners are in great shape with barely any wear and the opening edges have no real wear either.  The front and back cover are immaculate and the inside of the gatefold is in pristine condition also.  A superb example overall.

So apart from the photo booklet not being attached to the lyric pages it is still in great condition with no marking or creasing.  The two poly-lined inner sleeves have no side splits, tears or tears but do have some creasing here and there.

The records have been cleaned on my Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
