THE WHO SINGS MY GENERATION. 1965.
DECCA DL 74664 STEREO.
They don't turn up like this too often! Here's an original 1965 USA first pressing of The Who's "My Generation", and it's in amazing condition. The American pressing omitted the track "Im a Man", and included "Instant Party". The different sleeve came about because the Decca American marketing division felt that the album should show something iconically English, probably due to the success of the "British Invasion". Hence Big Ben instead of oil drums. Finding a good copy of this album is getting increasingly difficult, for many reasons. A lot of them have clipped corners, as was the American way of showing an import (Even though the album isn't an import, but IS an English Band). A lot of American retailers tended to put stickers on their albums, because who was to know this album would become a collectable classic. And lastly, purely because this album was SO GOOD, it got played a lot. Here's a copy that has survived amazingly well for 46 years, with possibly the cleanest back cover around. Certainly the best copy I have seen. Only the lightest signs of ageing. And even better, the vinyl is also in Excellent condition, with only ONE of the FAINTEST surface marks on side 2. To find it you will have to stand under a bright light and tilt the record. Each time I look for it, I can never find it first time. The record is absolutely fantastic. Of all the American Who releases, this is the most sought after, and to find one like this is an achievement. As you can see the tracklistings in the photo's I will just give you the full gradings.
THE SLEEVE - The front is flat with no creasing. It shows the "Printed in U.S.A." stamp, just by the side of Keith Moon's head. Faint corner dings, top and bottom edges solid with just a few signs of slight rubbing. The spine is solid, again only some spots of rubbing. You can see how good it is in the photo's. The back of the sleeve is, as I mentioned earlier, simply the cleanest one I have ever seen. Notoriously difficult to keep clean, due to it being white paper stuck to the card, this one is in amazing condition, only the slightest signs of ageing in the top left corner. Superb.
THE VINYL - Incredible!! Clean, glossy and flat. No warping. Only ONE mark on side 2, and even then you have got to search really hard to find it. You wont see it unless you get just the right angle, under a bright light. It's in amazing condition. The centre labels are the same, with just a FEW of the faintest spindle marks, again only visible under lights.
This is without doubt a collectors copy. You could not hope to find a better one. I have been collecting Who records and memorabilia for over 20 years, and I have never seen one in anything approaching this condition. A "keepers" copy.
