Although the printed insert of the back of the album cover states "Recorded at the Rainbow Theatre in London sometime in 1972," it was actually in 1973. There were actually TWO different live orchestral versions of The Who's 'Tommy' staged at London's Rainbow Theatre - the first on December 9, 1972 with The Who, plus a guest cast ( Graham Bell (as The Lover), Maggie Bell (as The Mother), Sandy Denny (as The Nurse), Steve Winwood (as The Father), Rod Stewart (as The Local Lad), Richie Havens (as The Hawker), Merry Clayton (as The Acid Queen) and Ringo Starr (as Uncle Ernie), backed by the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Measham. This is not that one. This is the second version, with the London Symphony Orchestra and the English Chamber Choir conducted by David Measham, with guest soloist appearances by Roger Daltry, David Essex, Roger Chapman, Elkie Brooks, Graham Bell, Marsha Hunt, L'Anglo Mysterioso (George Harrison), Merry Clayton, John Pertwee, Roy Wood, Vivian Stanshall and Billie Oddie. Labels are blank except for the side numbers but the cat # TAKRL-2956 is in the runout of all records. I can't vouch for the recording quality because I haven't listened to these records but I can vouch for the vinyl quality because they're in MINT/UNPLAYED condition. Cover with the inserts is in Near Mint condition. A really rare set of unofficial WHO albums.
