Introducing a NEAR MINT UK DEMO of 'La-La-La-Lies' b/w 'The Good's Gone' by THE WHO (red/silver Brunswick label 05968).
A truly outstanding example of this rare 1966 demo disc that would be near impossible to upgrade.
A-SIDE (visual): Stamper 116783-1C Flawless under bright daylight. Near pristine playing surface. Under halogen there are the harmless tiny faint lines you would expect from removing the record from the sleeve, nothing more. One small light mark noticed, probably from handling. Full original sheen. EX+/MINT-
B-SIDE (visual): Stamper 116782-1C. Flawless under bright daylight. Near pristine playing surface. Under halogen there are the harmless tiny faint lines you would expect from removing the record from its sleeve, nothing more. Full original sheen. MINT-
THE LABELS: Side-A is graded straight MINT (no spindle marks and otherwise as pristine as when it was pressed). Side-B is graded MINT- (a few light spindle marks, otherwise perfect). Please note there is a number stamp on the left side of both labels from time of release (see pics). Based on label appearance, it looks like the A-side has been played a handful of times, the B-side hardly at all.
THE SLEEVE: Original period Brunswick sleeve in excellent condition.
AUDIO: I played both sides when I bought the record and I have just played them both again. Both sides play flawlessly: LOUD and CRISP and WARM. No hint of crackle at any point, including run-in and run-out (silent). Audio is graded strictly as MINT. Absolutely perfect sound as it was intended to be heard!
Both 'La-La-La-Lies' and 'The Good's Gone' featured on the Brunswick 1965 album My Generation. The man I purchased this demo from some years ago (a very sincere collector) insisted it had originally belonged to Kit Lambert.
So, in summary: an extremely rare disc that normally fetches £450-£480 in this NEAR MINT condition. Each year the value rises a little more (check out previous auctions and you will see). The popular and very reputable Ebay trader 'Plastic Satisfaction' sold one a couple of years ago for £520. Seriously, copies like this are extremely few and far between and come into the category of 'holy grail' additions to the collections of Who or 60's beat afficionados.
