Description
The Who-Substitute 45 rpm Decca promotional copy is a rare and possibly one of fifty vinyl records released in 1970. This single features The Who's hit song "Substitute" and is in very good condition. The record format is a 7" with a paper sleeve and is in English language. Perfect for collectors of rock music and fans of The Who, this promotional copy is a sought-after gem for anyone looking to add a unique piece to their vinyl collection.
I played this on my cheap little portable turntable. Side A, Substitute, plays with no skips, just minor pops and cracks that might not be heard on a quality turntable. Side B, Young Man, has more surface scratches. It still plays fine, but not as good as side A. There is also some paper loss on Side B.
I had to do a lot of searching to find this record anywhere. I used Google Photo to ID it and stated that this was a promotional copy that was sent to DJ in 1970 after if failed to gain much traction. Originally released in 1966, it went to #5 in England but failed to chart in the USA. After the success of Live at Leeds, it was released on this label to DJ’s to ride on the success of Live at Leeds. Google states the promos on ATCO sell for around $55 and stating that some reports say there may only be around 50 copies of this record, making it much more valuable than the ATCO copies. I have no idea if that is true. Please do your own research. I put screen shots of the information that I got from Google with the photos. Also, I have no idea if the DECCA sleeve is the original. Google showed a copy that sold for over $300 on ebay, and it had a white sleeve with blue printing. It can be seen the the last photo.
