THE WORLD OF OZ - S/T - VERY RARE ORIGINAL US DERAM - PSYCH CLASSIC DES18022
1969 US PRESSING
DJ SAMPLE
-2 IN RUN OFF
The World of Oz were a British psychedelic pop group who released a sole self-titled LP in 1968, before fading into relative obscurity, although CD re-issues of the album are now widely available, a true original copy comes along very rarey. In the UK, the release sold next to nothing, as the song The Muffin Man, was a hit in some European countries, Decca took a chance and released the album in the US through Deram. Of course, it did even less than the UK version! The album cover is very strange — it features drawings of the last lineup of the group, which was understandable but also strange, as they were hardly heard on the record inside. The cover design utilizes characters from L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz universe plus representations of their manager, and even annotator Jonathan King, (who also reputedly discovered Genesis) while the back cover has images of producer Wayne Bickerton and arranger Mike Vickers. As a psychedelic artifact, musical and visual, the LP and the cover are serious collectors' items CONDITION
THIS ALBUM HAS BEEN WELL ENJOYED, ORIGINALLY A DJ SAMPLE, HOWEVER, A 1969 RECORD WAS CONSTRUCTED OF THICK VINYL, THERE ARE MUTIPLE HAIRLINES AND ABRASIONS AND NEEDS A GOOD DEEP CLEANING. I WILL RATE THIS AS A VG TO A VG+ CONDITION, IT STILL PLAYS WELL BUT THE JOY OF OWNERSHIP IS JUST THAT, TO OWN A VERY RARE SLICE OF BRIT PSYCH!
A VERY NICE ORIGINAL COPY!
COVER IN VG+ CONDITION, NO RIPS BUT DEFINITE WEAR, RING WEAR AND USUAL DIRT. ONE WRITTEN NAME ON BACK AND A DJ UNDERLINING OF ONE TRACK
ALL ORIGINAL 1969 DJ SAMPLE
How I Grade Condition Of Discs
Mint
This means I have owned it from new or purchased from a distributors warehouse, basically it means absolutely new shape, never been played or out of its dust cover. In the case of LP's, a North American album will have to be factory sealed (anyone can reseal an album!) Take Note: European and Japaneses albums were never shrink wrapped!
Note: Being mint does not guarantee it's free of pops and clicks, many pressings especially from the US were made with very poor vinyl and in a hurry which means often there are imperfections in the pressing. As a former importer, we were often given back brand new albums due to clicks heard in the playback.
Mint Minus - No such thing, it's either mint or not.
Excellent - A disc is super clean, probably unplayed with no visible marks whatsover, Excellent Plus, means it's probably mint but can't be proven by me. Excellent minus, is a disc that is excellent except it may have some very faint markings that do not show up in the playing
VG - A disc that is in good shape, may have some small scuffs or scratches, not in excellent shape but well worth owning. VG + and ++, a disc that is that much better than VG.
VG minus, just a smidgen below VG
Good - A disc that can be played, has obvious ware but is worth owning, a DJ copy of a rare early Motown for instance or a rare Doo-Wop or Northern Soul which could still be worth a fortune, Good Minus & Good Plus is a step above or below Good. In most cases I will not offer a disc in this condition unless it's rare and hard to find.
LABELS
Labels do not alter the grading of vinyl, many records are Excelent, looked after by the previous owner but still has their initials or markings on the label. A DJ copy will often have markings to show which side to be plugged, or the length of the intro. Many labels and covers in the US have been punched, that was done by the record company to show the disc was deleted and shipped out to mass retailers to sell cheap and could not be returned for a credit, this does not impeed the value, many records eg Swan and VJ Beatles were done like that (try finding an original album!)

All records are carefully sight-graded and occasionally Play-graded where possible. Please keep in mind that used LPs from the '50s & '60s are rare to be found in a Mint or Mint Minus condition, also please be aware if you are in possession of a state of the art cartridge and amplification system, any used vinyl will present some kind of surface noise as once a record is played on a normal (and 90% of a record from the 50’s 60’s and 70’s was) system it will create some evidence of playing.
