Label Conditions: All four are immaculate: ultra clean, super fresh and highly attractive with any of the tiny few spindle traces minuscule and barely even showing. This set played just once and records offer supreme sound.

Cat Number: EPC 68262.

Mode / Speed: Side one is Mono. Sides two, three and four are Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of these Records: 133 / 124 grams. These about average for their era.

Country of Manufacture: England.

Rarity: Scarce: basically this is a compilation album with some singles, songs from their first album and unreleased material on the first record. The second disc is the masterwork ‘Odyssey & Oracle’ in full with all songs in correct order. This in full stereo. With the price of an original ‘Odyssey’ now reaching massive prices (even in the price guides that still undervalue most everything), this is a superb opportunity to own a pristine vinyl copy. Issued in 1973, this would not have sold in vast numbers like their previous albums and a much better example will prove immensely difficult to find.

Original Year of Release: 1973: the material included is all 1960s.

Brief Info: Arguably, the only Zombies album you will ever need. Their original albums sold quite sparsely and are seldom seen or offered especially in anything like lightly played conditions. This set includes the prime cuts from the first album and the entire classic of ‘Odyssey & Oracle’ along with a few singles including the classic ‘She’s Not There’. All on this via a barely played, solidly pressed original double set. With the original ‘Odyssey & Oracle’ now commanding massive prices, this superb double set will offer a value-for-money way to experience this evergreen classic from the vinyl source and few originals will ever beat or match the sound of this pristine example. Long out of print, this double set includes tracks from an unreleased album too. If you have yet to discover the Zombies sound, well there will few better ways to do so and I would guess at a realistic and affordable price.

This Cover’s Potential for Wear: Very High: like all unlaminated double set gatefolds, this is prone to all forms of wear and is seldom seen without.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: and arguably worthy of a (+). An unlaminated gatefold format with a matt finish. Both front and back include the original silver note sticker about side one being mono. Printed and made in England by Shorewood.

Cover Front: A very attractive front for what is clearly a wear-prone cover. A couple of fine creases, and slight traces or rubbing, mostly near the bottom edge and a small few pressmarks seen under light. Barely any rubbing and still fresh and the artwork will prove hard to find much better. No ringwear – always a bonus on these double sets – and the small original silver ‘mono’ sticker is superb. This never removed or picked at and still very shiny.

Cover Back: The back is pretty much the same again as is the sticker which replicates the front one. Few of these will be seen better and the lack of ringwear to the black surface is highly unusual.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Apart from tiny cornertip creases on the top pair, there is practically nothing else to fault – and the tip creases are almost nit-picking small.

Top Edges: Very light and faint patchy rub traces.

Bottom Edges: Mainly light rubs, more near ends.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mainly sharp with little wear and both guaranteed untrimmed. Minor burr/thickening traces towards the bottom. Records entered on these right outside edges.

Spine and Text: Practically pristine as made and still very white. Solid, straight, uncompressed and square, both right edges meet up perfectly together. All text is near perfect and unworn.

Corners: Mainly light tip rubs to the right four, most on the front bottom which is nearer moderate. The spine pair register little being white but looks little here anyway. Fine to excellent shape is retained accordingly.

Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this very fragile 70’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. This solidly attractive item should please many, if not most collectors.

The Inner Sleeves: EXCELLENT(++): the mirror-image unlined CBS style promotional inners are in super conditions. All four faces clean and fresh with barely any noteworthy creasing or marks. All edges secure and barely aged at all, both retaining nigh-on original colour with any traces of darkening or seam glue browning minuscule.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++) / EXCELLENT(+): this being very critical. A superb visual pair that are super clean, shiny, intense black and very solidly pressed. A pair with minimal plays on all the evidence and only ultra fine and faint hairline traces seen under light. Visually super records that should please most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Both records play even above their impressive visual grading with nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing for a fairly difficult album. How many original ‘Odyssey & Oracle’s will be seen or offered as clean as this? and if so, at what price? Being honest, I have found few more of these double sets than the first issues and this probably sold in equally minor numbers. Massively undervalued in the books, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy The Zombies music on record in superb condition. Few copies will outperform this early pressing significantly I feel sure. I am certain both records have been played very lightly and have been clearly well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading these fine records. This set will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. Really rare and expensive albums will even be Double Boxed if deemed necessary and possible. When larger boxes are used, the thick record and stiffener ‘sandwich’ is then thickly embedded into bubble-wrap to bulk out the record inside the box to centre the item inside to reduce the risk of damage still further. Printed address labels are used for clarity as well as a sender label. Customers requests or special needs for P&P will be respected if at all possible but ‘Signed-For’ posting is NOT an option anymore. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
