REGGAE SHHH! / REGGAE MEADOWLANDS ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by THE ZORRO FIVE. Original UK pressing on the DECCA label (F 23042) from 1970. Killer funky reggae double-sider by this mysterious South African combo ;) The obscure UK 7inch issue is by far the most desirable release with superior recording compared to the later Italian pressing. Both REGGAE SHHH! and REGGAE MEADOWLANDS are established club tunes with obvious crossover appeal for mod and exotic funk DJs. Easily one of the best of the genre with Mohawks Pama label influenced rhythms and organ sound. B-boy drum skills / infectious basslines with fuzz pedal / "rrr-reggae" shouts and "shhh-shaka-shhh' shaker percussion sounding vocals / skanky guitars and endless psychedelic hammond hooks. The twisted rocksteady funk of REGGAE MEADOWLANDS is the b-side gem, just as hot as R*GGAE SHHH! with similar rhythms but a different hammond sound riding on top. Difficult to decide which side is best. Hip hop kicks / funky hi-hats / loops and samples ;) Booming production. Original 4-prong centre intact. As an extra, the winner will also receive the soft card Italian picture sleeve (see photo) in addition to the Decca label company sleeve our item was originally housed in :) Seldom comes up for sale. Very rare 45!!!
Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG
Vinyl is closer to shiny M- condition overall with a few hairlines / faint scuffs from sleeve removal. Some light surface noises. Booming production sound. Item taken from an unplayed deadstock of records and played once for the recording of the soundclip. Record housed in original Decca label custom sleeve. Sleeve has light wear and creasing. Old sticker residue mark to back of company sleeve. Winner will also receive the soft card Italian picture sleeve too :) Very rare 45!!!
