Description

Please read my description carefully before bidding.  I will ship the item worldwide and will accept free return if it doesn't match the listing description.

This one is the first mono, flat edged, and deep-grooved pressing of Thelonious Monk's GENIUS OF MODERN MUSIC VOL.2 on Blue Note Records, catalog no. BLP-5009.  Very early Monk's LP ever issued himself.  A heavy vinyl and flat rim version of 10 inches LP.

This is an original issue from Blue Note Records, released in 1952, not a reissue version of Classic Records or Analog Production.  With "EAR" etched on the dead wax of both sides.  No "R" and no "INC" on both sides.  The records of Blue Note during this time were not recorded by Rudy Van Gelder, thus, there are no "RVG" etched on the dead wax of both sides.  "RVG" will not appear in the dead wax until BLP-5043.

Address on labels: "BLUE NOTE RECORDS 767 LEXINGTON AVE NYC".  The cover is also the 1st version cover with address on the back cover as follows: "BLUE NOTE RECORDS 767 LEXINGTON, New York 21, N.Y."

Artists Included: Thelonious Monk (piano), Art Blakey and Max Roach (drums), Sahib Shihab (alto saxophone), Milt Jackson (vibraphone), Al McKibbon and Nelson Boyd (bass), Kenny Dorham (trumpet), Lou Donaldson (alto saxophone), Lucky Thompson (tenor saxophone).

The vinyl plays NM on both sides.  It still looks bright and shinny under the bright light.  I saw a trace of really small needle drops on track 1 of Side 1 only. Overall, very very nice given its age.

The cover is NM-.  No split, no crack, but light paper losses on the lower seams. Small pencil writing on back but can easily erase by the rubber. Paper turned brown on the back due to age.  Overall, nice.

The record is play graded as well as visually.  I attempt to grade conservatively, listing all significant flaws.

My grading is as follows: M (perfectly like new), NM, NM-/VG++, VG+, VG, VG-, G, G-. You will be satisfied.  And I will accept a free return.  Please bid with confidence.
