Monk's Dream marked Thelonious Monk's Columbia debut after five years on Riverside, and it set the tone for his most commercially successful period. The quartet — Monk on piano, Charles Rouse on tenor, John Ore on bass, Frankie Dunlop on drums — moves through a mix of originals and standards, including "Body and Soul" and "Just a Gigolo" alongside Monk compositions like the title track and "Bright Mississippi." It's a tight, confident session that introduced Monk to a much wider audience.

This is an original US first pressing on Columbia, CL 1965, pressed at Columbia's Pitman, New Jersey plant. The matrix carries a 1J designation on both sides — the first lacquer cutting used for this release, consistent across the run.

Produced by Teo Macero, who worked closely with Monk during this era at Columbia.

Red 2-eye Columbia label, correct for the original 1963 issue — Columbia transitioned from the six-eye to two-eye label design that same year. Cover photo by Don Hunstein, a striking sepia-toned profile shot of Monk in his signature hat.

This copy's vinyl carries a small "LAST" record preservative sticker on the Side 1 label, applied by a previous owner — a known audiophile treatment product, not a manufacturing mark.
