WHEN IT came to delivering the goods, Thin Lizzy were no shysters. This was the third album in a row to hit the bullseye with regard to both content and excitement. Recorded under somewhat strained conditions having 'disciplined' wild man Brain Robertson with suspension after one too many drunken brawls, the band was presented via the artwork as a lean and mean power trio. However, Robertson was indeed allowed to contribute to the recordings all be it in a guest capacity pending resolution of of his breach of code and conduct.

Once again the material here is stellar. From the cut and thrust of hard rockin' tracks such as 'Opium Trail', 'Killer Without A Cause' and the title track to the heavy, heavy beat of 'Bad Reputation' the method is clear and simple - direct action, grinding dual lead guitars and pounding Downey drums. Amazingly the lead off track 'Soldier Of Fortune' manages to combine Lizzy's patent trademark hard rockin' with an altogether more intricate, almost progressive approach allowing room to breathe and melody to flow.

Oddly, some of my favourite tracks are the mellower material including 'Southbound' and 'Dear Lord', two of Lynott's most plaintiff performances with lyrics to die for. Again, this was Lizzy at the peak of their creative powers - the third album in a row to do so and one that remains as fresh today as it did back then.

This is the very rare 1st pressing issued in a laminated sleeve - quickly switched to the regular non laminated variation. I've been a Thin Lizzy fan since 1973 and I have only seen two other copies of this record in the laminated sleeve after all these years of record collecting. VERY rare.

Vinyl: Very clean and shiny condition. No spindle marks and no other signs of any use. Grades as top near archive MINT-!

Cover: This is possibly the rarest Lizzy album to find with the original 1st pressing laminated sleeve. Most copies came in a regular matt cardboard cover but the very first copies were housed in a fully laminated cover. Only light signs of use. The laminate finish is crisp, clean and shiny. Sharp corners - no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no seam splits and no creases. Spine is stiff, square and straight. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 44 years after release. Grades as archive MINT-!
