ARGUABLY THE pinnacle achievement or their career, the album where it all came together in one huge explosion of energy, talent and excitement. Every song is a winner and the twin guitars of Robertson and Gorham slash and burn like razors to the face. This was also the first album where Lynott's panoramic lyrical vision really kicked in - the outsider, fugitive, man on the run pushing against the system if not exactly winning then certainly causing far too much trouble.
The romantic but fiesty rock of the title track and especially 'Warriors' and 'Emerald' moves mountains allowing the guitars to literally explode out of the speakers and inflict serious injury. The solos are both precise yet utterly manic and Lynott's vocal styling breathes a sort of authentic yet other wordly vibe. Amazingly, the quirky pop rock of 'Running Back', 'Romeo And The Lonely Girl' and, to a lesser extent, 'Angel From The Coast', show a different side to the wild boys of rock helping to position the rockers up high and mighty. The big hit 'The Boys Are Back In Town' sounds as fresh today as it did when I first heard it in 1976.
Tough to score original die cut gatefold copies in decent shape - this one is as good as it gets.
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.

Vinyl: Beautiful clean and shiny condition. No spindle marks and no other signs of any use. Grades as a top shop fresh MINT-!
Cover: Again, virtually no signs of any use. Issued in a 'unipak' style gatefold diecut cover - displays full printers bloom. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Nice and impressive straight and stiff spine. Beautiful and impossible to find like this after 40 years - looks like it walked out of the factory yesterday. Grades as a top MINT-!
