THIN LIZZY - Thin Lizzy ORIG Decca LP SKL 5082 (UK, Stereo, 1971)
Happy to present the overlooked first UK LP from Lizzy with a near perfect matt sleeve and nicely preserved disc. I believe this to be an early press if not the 1st and it’s really survived the test of time extremely well!
Run off matrices: ZAL - 10412.P - 3D / ZAL - 10413.P - 3D
The single format matt sleeve was printed by MacNeill Press, London and just has to be seen to be believed! It has maintained it’s shape and definition superbly. It must have been purchased on order because it has none of the shelf dents or creases or indeed handling from being sat in the shop racks. It is virtually uncreased on the front and shows hardly any handling marks. The spine is as flat, solid and well-defined as it was in the factory - just perfect. There are no edge rubs or wear to either top or bottom and the corners are 99% as new with just the tiniest tip rubs. There is NO feathering or softening of the opening edges. There is no writing, no stickers, no dirt, no residue. The back is as good as the front with just the lightest of toning (not yellowing) and one tiny, near invisible crease to the bottom. No rips, smears or finger marks. For a fragile matt design of over 35 years, it’s in immense condition and I hope you’ll agree with me when I grade it M- (Mint minus) condition.
The navy blue boxed Decca labels are in fine condition with no writing, stickers, residue or tears and show only a handful of wispy spindle trails.
The light to medium weight vinyl is a real beauty with just one thing to consider: there is a prominent scuff line, around 2 inches in length across track 1 and half of track 2 on Side 1. This has no effect on the audio other than 2 clicks early on track 2. There is a little distortion on Phil’s vocal S2/T1 and background static only noticeable during the quietest sections. Other than these this plays excellently throughout and HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO. Visually, other than the scuff line it looks Mint-, but the one isolated mark means I’m giving it EX- (Excellent Minus). Supplied in what I believe to be the correct company inner.
Truly lovely copy of Lizzy’s debut, this should satisfy the majority of serious collectors. Low start, no reserve.
