THIRD EAR BAND "Alchemy" 1969 UK HARVEST 1st TOP COPY NO EMI LOGO, 'SOLD IN UK' LABEL TEXT, SUPERB AUDIO
THIRD EAR BAND
Alchemy
HERE WE HAVE A SUPERB, UK HARVEST RECORDS (SHVL 756) VERY FIRST PRESSING OF THIRD EAR BAND'S ASTONISHING, INNOVATIVE, BEAUTIFUL & HAUNTING 1969 DEBUT, "Alchemy"
DETERMINEDLY AVANT-GARDE AND SERIOUS IN ITS UNDERTAKING WITH MUSICAL SOURCES RANGING FROM INDIAN RAGA, JEWISH LITANIES, CELTIC LEGENDS, IMPROVISATIONAL JAZZ AND MEDIEVAL ENGLISH FOLK, IT WAS UNSURPRISINGLY GREETED WITH CONFUSION BY ITS INTENDED AUDIENCE UPON RELEASE.
THE ALBUM SOLD IN VERY LIMITED NUMBERS, DID NOT CHART IN THE UK AND WAS SOON DELETED (the only TEB album which did register was "Earth, Air, Fire And Water" which spent a mere 2 weeks in the chart, peaking at No. 46). "Alchemy" HAS SUBSEQUENTLY BECOME A REAL COLLECTORS ITEM
AND IT STILL SOUNDS AS INVENTIVE TODAY, AS IT DID 40 YEARS AGO - AN ASTONISHING PIECE OF WORK AND A MUST FOR ANY SERIOUS COLLECTOR - VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
THE LP IS PRESSED ON QUALITY HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL WHICH DELIVERS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING AUDIO WITH A BEAUTIFUL LOUD CUT
THE HARVEST LABELS CARRY "THE GRAMOPHONE CO..." RIM TEXT AND NO EMI BOXED LOGO AND SIDE TWO ALSO CARRIES THE "SOLD IN THE UK...." TEXT WHICH WAS ONLY PRESENT ON THE EARLIEST ISSUED LABELS
MATRIX: SHVL 756 A-1 / SHVL 756 B-1
MOTHERS/STAMPERS: 1/O and 1/O (the side one mother is not visible but I presume it to be a 1)
THE ALBUM IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL OUTER LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE "Made and printed in Great Britain" (there are no printers credits but this is clearly a Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve)
Mel Davis: Cello, Slide Pipes
Paul Minns: Oboe, Recorder
Glen Sweeney: Tabla, Drums, Wind Chimes
Richard Coff: Violin, Viola
Track Listing:
Side One: MOSAIC / GHETTO RAGA / DRUID ONE / STONE CIRCLE
Side Two: EGYPTIAN BOOK OF THE DEAD / AREA THREE / DRAGON LINES / LARK RISE
LABELS: The HARVEST labels are CLEAN and BRIGHT and have NO wear, NO writing and only light/moderate spindles
VINYL Visual: The vinyl still retains its original lustre with a DEEP, GLOSSY SHEEN. There a some superficial hairlines but these have no audio consequence
VINYL Audio: The audio delivery is OUTSTANDING - CRYSTAL CLEAR, WARM, RICH, BEAUTIFUL SOUND. The LP has a TREMENDOUS LOUD CUT with the Oboe solos sounding incredibly impressive, simply soaring out of the speakers. There are NO scratches, NO jumps, NO sticks, NO loud clicks or pops and the record plays throughout to a very high standard with NO groove-wear and NO distortion. There is however, a little (inevitable) surface noise, especially in the very quiet passages. This surface is very, very minor and when play-grading this WONDERFUL LP at a loud volume I did not find it AT ALL intrusive. Must be very, very critically graded EXCELLENT+ for audio but in all honesty I do not think you will find a much better sounding copy. NOT over-graded in ANY way as I use STRICT RECORD COLLECTOR grading standards (please refer to my feedback and 'about me' page). STUNNING LP
SLEEVE: The gatefold sleeve is in EXCELLENT+ condition. The spine displays ALL the text CLEAR and SHARP with just a little corner 'bumping' and the laminated outer surfaces have a BEAUTIFUL DEEP GLOSSY SHEEN with just some light record impression on the back (please see photos). SUPERB EXAMPLE
PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT MY PICTURES - I USUALLY TAKE QUITE A FEW SO YOU CAN GET A CLEAR INDICATION OF EVERY DETAIL OF THE ITEM
THIS REALLY IS A TREMENDOUS UK FIRST PRESSING WHICH DELIVERS JUST ABOUT THE FINEST AUDIO YOU ARE EVER LIKELY TO FIND FOR THIS LP - FANTASTIC (AND PRETTY MUCH UNIQUE) PIECE OF WORK - VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
AS WITH ALL MY RECORDS THIS HAS A LOW START PRICE AND NO RESERVE
PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MORE RARE AND COLLECTABLE VINYL

Guarantee: I endeavour to be as accurate and honest as possible when describing the condition of any LP but of course if you feel that I am mistaken and the description is inaccurate I will offer a complete, no quibble refund (through Paypal) upon return of the item.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to a recent spate of bidders with no feedback or limited history not paying for records I must insist that all bidders with NO feedback or limited history (less than 10 true positives) contact me first before bidding to confirm their genuine intention to buy the record otherwise their bid will be cancelled and they will be blocked. Sorry to sound so authoritarian but non payers are a real waste of not only my time but genuine eBayers
ALL RECORDS ARE PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED BEFORE DISPATCH AND PACKAGED WITH THE VINYL OUTSIDE OF THE SLEEVE TO PREVENT ANY 'KNIFING' DURING TRANSIT.

I will email you when payment has been received to let you know when the item will be posted. Please leave feedback upon receipt of the item so that I know you have received it safely. Any problems please email me. Thanks
